A very realistic romance.
What differentiates Paradise Kiss from other romances is the way it treats its core subject: love. Love is never idealized. It is never made the driving force of the characters' lives. Maybe it's not what a sentimental person would like but it surely express how love is in real life. The lover isn't idolized and the main character doesn't center her entire life around him.
A strong point of this anime is the characters. They seem like people you'll see on the street or hear about from a friend, living and breathing.
