Isekai these days are used a lot these days, and as such have become a large genre. Some isekai are serious about themselves like overlord, youjo senki etc, and some are simply made for comedy like konosuba. Something which cautious hero does is try to balance both, and create a story with serious plot while having comedy as well. Some episodes are just comedy, some episodes just go along the plot, having small comedy moments. But most episodes try to balance both, and fail badly.

anime. For its positive, the comedy is great. When they only have comedy episodes, that focus on making you laugh its great, and the episodes are like a 9/10. But the negative is that cautious hero tries to use these comedic characters and situation to tell a serious isekai plot in episodes, with serious moments, and its horrible, its very boring to sit through. This review has little spoilers and does not ruin the anime(only vague no context small spoilers).
(Story), 5/10
The story is basic, a goddess named ristarte is tasked with an s class world she needs to save, and to do this she needs to summon someone from the real world, and while going through potential people, she stumbles across someone whos base stats are amazing, and summons this person, seiya. Unfortunately he is extremely cautious. Thus they both need to try and save this S class world from the demon lord, while also dealing with seiya.
The story is very basic, nothing new, its simply save the world, defeat the bad demons. This simplicity and one idea of seiya being cautious works really well during the comedic parts, the comedy being the best part, and the story being so bland is fine for the comedy. BUT, for some reason they try to tell a serious story, they quite literally have kidnappings, torture and sacrifices in this, and try to make it serious. Now while some shows like gintama can trend the line between comedy and seriousness, cautious hero cannot. They have some great comedy, with them using quite boring names and using it sarcastically and making fun of it, and its funny, like the spell named "hells fire" or "phoenix overdrive", very funny when they use it for comedy. But when there trying to save someone being tortured and use the spell "hells fire", it ruins it completely, it tries its best in serious comedy but fails.
The only time the anime is able to be a good serious anime is in the last two episodes, where the seriousness takes a big turn, and is better as its not so reliant on tropes like seiyas character, or isekai tropes, and can make for a more enjoyable last few episodes. But that doesnt really take away the boringness the rest of the episodes have. :/
The storys comedy works well, but when they use comedy and try to fit in stupid things into a serious but very bland and unoriginal plot, its hard to sit through. Especially the characters, speaking of which.
(Characters) 7/10
The characters are sometimes amazing, sometimes not. To sum them up, the two main characters, seiya and ristarte usually go between comedy and serious story. And for both, there characters work only in comedy.
Seiya is the stereotypical main character, with one difference, hes cautious. Thats the main thing, thats literally his one main trait, he is the bland, unoriginal silent but strong main character, who has a heart for children but never shows it. And this works very well in the comedy, but my god is he just so unoriginal and boring to watch when it gets serious. Seiya works in the comedy because his one main trait contrasts the stereotypical rest of himself, and its funny to watch him when he looks serious but he then just runs away in caution. Whats not fun is when he then decides to be a serious main character and he decides to go and be all serious for saving a friend, and acts very blandly like his stereotype of a character would. Another negative during the non comedy is how on and off his cautiousness is. He is very cautious at one point, but when they need to be serious he just kinda becomes less cautious. One point he uses holy water to test if people are undead, its funny at the moment and makes sense, but he never does it ever again, if he was really cautious wouldn't he.
For ristarte she is the same, but a little more bearable as she is usually more comedic in the show, and doesn't change so drastically. Ristarte does follow an aqua type of personality, but in a way so she is more of a straight man in the show. During comedic moments she is fantastic, but during the serious points she is the spectator talking about what seiya did and how amazing it is.....
The background characters dont matter, as the only two that do are serious all the time and are really boring and used for plot.
(Art) 8/10
Art is art, if you dont like it I dont blame you. During the comedic sessions the art works well with the faces and poses, and sometimes are really funny. For landscapes it usually looks nice, (especially in the god realm), and its quite fine for the action, it does have time when it goes into slideshow mode, but it does well to hide it. The art is more how you judge it, if it looks ugly to you, you probs will think the whole shows ugly.
The character designs are something different though, in both ways. For the goddesses especially the looked really nice, and unique. I thought ristarte was quite a nice character, and seiya was meant to look like the stereotypical main character so its fine to me. But my god, do the demons act so serious for such a stupid and unoriginal design. Think of a demon general, like a demon/monster one. There. Thats what they look like. Ehhhh overall its nice though.
(Overall) 7/10
Half of it was very good, the other half was mediocre trash, the comedy was amazing, and very funny and something i enjoy, which if the show was just that I would give a 9.5/10. But the other half, the points where the characters get serious about the boring story, its 5/10, I cannot stand watching it. Which sucks. If they simply stuck to telling a comedy, more konosuba like, the show would have been amazing. But when you wanna go serious in a comedy show, look at gintama. Dont use spells like "hells fire" seriously, its very boring.
If you want to watch a comedy isekai, go watch konosuba first, if your still wanting some good comedy isekai, and can put up with bland story the characters take seriously, watch cautious hero.

Somewhat spoilor free, its just really vauge.
Beastars is an amazing anime, but it doesnt seem to much like an anime as I thought It would be. When watching beastars, it seems very anime like, the art style is in 3d, but in anime style. The world is made up of animals, and some animals also lay eggs and sell them, and how does milk work. Anyway beastars has aspects of it which resemble anime like storys, but when watching legoshi, the main wolf protaginist. And watching his love for haru, the rabbit, and how his feelings developed, the anime felt very much like a drama. ... |
