I saw the OST on youtube, listened to it for like a month, went to see what that "sonny boy" was about and oh man... this is my favorite anime.
This is not a review - I am very biased - but this may serve for those that are interested to know if this is for them or not.
Sonny Boy is not a traditional anime and it has a very slowburn type of storytelling. It explains very little about the world and very few arcs are obvious or even clear. It feels like a dream, it is symbolic but in a subtle way, it makes you
...
feel, and through feeling makes you think. It does not have a great villain or a huge stakes story, it feels like a surreal slice of life, and I think it is the best quality of it.
You may think is the type of anime that is 3deep5u, but it really isn't. It is not pretentious with its themes or stories, it is not a puzzle to solve that require Rick n Morty levels of IQ, it does not want to impose something or convince you, it wants to tell a tale and let you figure out what it means to you.
Furthermore, it is charming as heck! the animations are stylish and crisp. They have a style that is unique to it, it is both more realistic than regular anime but also very cartoonish and surreal at times, and the contrast is really pleasant. The soundtrack is absolutely perfect! It got me before the anime did, and I listen to it regularly. If nothing else, check its OST!
Finally, it is an anime for you if you like dream-like arthouse-esque films or really unusual types of anime and storytelling. It is my favorite anime of all and there really isn't anything like it. I feel like this is a future classic and I could gush about it for pages on end.

This one is weeeeird, and not in a very fun way,
First and foremost, the OP and ED for this anime are great! The animation is so well done, and it encapsulates the story in a way I saw very few OPs do. The ED has one of my favorite songs, and both have this surreal vibe that if the rest of the show compromised with it, it would be so much better than it is. So, watch the OP and ED, they really are the best this anime gets!
As for the history, it is mediocre. It is somewhat surprising with its twists, and it foreshadows
...
enough so you can piece somethings by yourself. The setting is interesting, but used kinda poorly, besides the initial mystery, the menace of the government and villains are somewhat arbitrary, and none of the story beats really resonate with me.
But what kept me going back were the characters. There is something weird going on with the magical girls and the mistery of their origin is intriguing, and they are fun characters, although a little generic and shallow. The protag is kind of weird, hard to relate to most of the time.
I feel this one is such a wasted potential. It has a somewhat intriguing plot in theory that would have been much more interesting if it was more focused on it, because most episodes are boring and feel like filler. Furthermore, it is too generic for what it is trying to do, and not in a parodiesque sort of way.
This anime has this vibe, this evangelion-esque berserky vibe that all you are seeing now is a veil and something is going to go down that will change everything, and it does... at the very end. This was the final nail in the coffin for me. After 12 episodes of filler and teasing, the big twist is at the very end and "leaves something for your imagination". I swear, if the ending twist was in the middle, it would have been so much more interesting! Such wasted potential.
This one I can't recommend, is not the good kind of bad, it is just mediocre, and it could have been much better.

You will have a blast watching this under one condition: you can not take it serious.
Kakegurui is an absurd anime that glorifies gambling, twisting it into a metaphor for taking risks and giving your all and it is hilarious. Like, they try soooo hard to make gambling a device for growth that the only sensible decision to make is to watch it as parody.
But as parody, it is really good! It is an unapologetic fan-servicey fun show with many of the anime tropes that make me question if they were self aware or not. If a show is so damn dumb that makes me
...
question if it is actually smart, I am very much all in.
But for real, what ties it together are the characters. They are very much one-dimensional save some exceptions, but they are what they should be: fun and absurd elements that make fun and absurd games to have fun and absurd solutions.
Our main girl is the super powerful insane gambling horny mastermind Yumeko. The first episode sets the norm, she is always going to win using the biggest brainiest strat possible. These 4D chess plays are funny and absurd, and are explained pretty well, although us mere mortals could never even grasp those solutions. It is not a "lets find out together" type of deal, it is "look how absolutely convoluted this thing is!"
She is the one-punch man of gambling, so to speak, so most of the stakes rely on other factors like the side characters on the consequences of losing and so on. The supporting character's are quirky, less quirky than Yumeko, but they act as the straight guy to the mental gynastics that gambling is in this show.
Overall, it is a silly, weird anime that is borderline self-aware and that delivers on the absurdity it proposes. Watch it ironically!

This one I watched more as background noise than an attentive, active content consumption™. Therefore, this is not a full blown analysis more than it is a impression that may help you decide to watch it or not (no spoilers)
I never played the Persona 5 game, and it's obvious that the history, world, combat and characters are better suited for a videogame rather than an anime, but the story holds up pretty well still and it's a fun watch. The character's are fun, if not very deep, and the way it utilizes many aspects of japanese society into villains and character arcs are pretty cool.
The

main history gets bigger and bigger in scope in a way that feels natural, and the ending is pretty interesting, made me cry a little, although that is not too hard to do.
I recommend for anyone meaning to watch this anime the video "Why you always kill gods in JRPG" from Moon Chanel. It was this video that made me interested in watching persona, and it gives a cultural background of the themes of the anime. This probably made its faults be less damaging for me.
Overall, an enjoyable experience, if not very deep or very well executed. If you love the game, I don't recommend it, but if you don't want to play it, it manages to tell the history well enough.
