needless fanservice + poor writing + predictable plot + trope heavy. I loved the artwork, especially the mana crystal ball scene and Vermeil's eyes, but other than the art, it doesnt have much going for it. the opening song as well as much of the soundtrack is really good. however, the magic system isn't thought out, the villian makes no sense and appears out of nowhere, with little to no motivation. it covers a lot of story in a short amount of time, but at the same time, the plot is stretched really thin in places. it would have been interesting to see the world
...
be fleshed out a bit more.
I think bringing in a bigger bad for the final episodes is a bit cheap, almost as if the show didn't know where to go next. the only saving grace of the final episode is Vermeil's backstory because I am always a sucker for juicy juicy lore progression, but other than that, the fight choreography was mediocre

overall I would say it is good. the characters are decent, the conflicts are well thought out, the artwork and sound track are interesting. I do not dislike the character designs and outfits even though some stuff is too flamboyant. the anime is about a simple love story between two people who cannot be together because they are mortal enemies. this is a unique twist on the classic romeo and juliet plotline but it very entertaining to watch.
however there is one thing that I absolutely despise. in episode 8, we are introduced to Anna Hojo. her character is a 2 dimensional overexaggerated caricature that is
...
written for the sole purpose of pissing off the audience. episode 8 was not a fun experience to watch as it completely ruined the mood the show had been building up (more on this late). I am tired of the overused trope of a lesbian being a bitch towards the MC and being in love with his love interest. that conflict does not provide anything to the plot. she is an awful character, using blackmail and threats to attempt to get what she wants, treating everyone like little more than a servant expecting them to give her whatever she wants, picking fights and attempting to do things nonconsentually.
to discuss the mood now, the mood of the show is mainly warm and lighthearted. there is little conflict that continues through episodes and there are, as far as I can remember, no cliffhangers. this show managed to get me coming back for more just through how its characters were written, not having to rely on cliffhangers and other drama. it warms my heart to see Fudo mess up a date and get worried about it, and it is fun to see how being around Fudo has changed Desumi.
overall I would say that I reccomend it with a big caviate. I would highly reccomend skipping the first half of episode 8 if you do not want bullshit drama. additionally, I am in a love-hate relationship with waiting for season 2 as it will likely bring back more of Anna Hojo, and with her, more bullshit. If I wanted a well written lesbian character, I would want someone like Minori, but compared to the godsend that is Minori, Anna is the absolute worst bottom of the barrel dumpster fire that could be written

this is such hot garbage i couldnt look away. its like watching a monkey swallow a hand grenade. there are stakes, character arcs, consequences but oh my f**** god this is a real piece of work (in the "not good" way).
the visuals are good, the characters and their actions are believable, no matter how infuriating what they do may be. personally, i learned a lot about how to structure and write stories, both from the manga itself and the actions of the MC, who is an aspiring author.
overall, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, and I cannot saw whether I would read it again if
...
I could turn back time.
it has considerable nudity at some points (if I remember correctly), especially at the beginning. I find this to be disappointing, as it shows that the author was relying on other methods to draw in readers at the beginning, and shows they didnt have faith in their material, however as time goes on, the amount of nudity decreases.

i personally loved it, but if I had to give an objective score, it would be a 7/10. there is some unique technology ideas in it that make it interesting, but a lot of the content feels recycled from other shows. additionally, the characters feels rushed, with huge time skips between some episodes (mainly after maine dies) that take away from the viewing experience in my opinion. i would have liked to see david grow as a person and become a better leader. aside from some issues like that, the characters are easy to get attached to. i felt nothing when maine's girlfriend died, but
...
maine's death and rebecca's death were really sad. it was interesting to see how david comes to grips with his mother's death, but again, it is rushed through.
one personally preference that i would like to change is if david guessed that adam smasher was his father and before he dies, he said "I dont give a sh@t, dad" instead of just "like i give a sh@t".
the visuals were outstanding and the music was just OOoooh. i feel depressed after finishing the anime.
another gripe i have is that the subtitles dont display what they are saying during the calls, and the call logs are not always on screen, making it hard to follow along sometimes.
one thing that was especially done is the feeling of rage against the system, and feeling abandonded. cyberpunk didnt spend too much time on this that it would feel drawn out but they didnt spend too little that it didnt have an effect on the audience.
