Story: 6/10
Nisekoi is a rather "forgettable" manga, if you judge how fast one forgets something by the plot events. It is extremely cliche, but hang on! That isn't necessarily a bad thing. The manga starts off as a nice and fluffy shonen romance, obviously made to appeal to a teenager-ish audience. It's getting late in Japan, and a young person goes into a convenient store. They see the latest issue of Shonen Jump (with Nisekoi on the cover), and wonder in Japanese "Why the heck not?" It could be some quick entertainment, maybe they'll bring it up with their buds tomorrow in school, saying something
...
like "Hey, did you read the latest chapter of Nisekoi?" Soon after, their thoughts would be directed onto something else, maybe the math teacher's drone on some new mathematical concept, the world will never know! That is basically what Nisekoi is: some cheap fun.
Art: 8/10
Nisekoi's art isn't balanced. The character designs are very attractive, but sometimes, the art goes from one place to another. I don't mean this in a surreal-manga way, because the art in Nisekoi doesn't leave much to the imagination. Everything is put out for the reader (hey, isn't this the point of all manga?), and the reader can be absorbed in the fun of the character reactions or something else. I just want to add something else about the character design: most of the characters (the girl ones, of course) can often be found in a state of "moe-blob". The girls of this manga are not particularly sexy at any point, they mostly exhibit a cute psychical state of being. This isn't to say that they aren't sexy at some moments in the manga, because they are. For the most part, they are full of this ["disease"] called "moe". This manga, like billions of other manga, take place at a frickin' high school. Because of this fact, there's a lot of desk shots, (no panty shots), grass, school uniforms, etc. It's all drawn very nicely and simply.
Character: 6/10
The characters of Nisekoi are cutouts, one could say, from other manga. We have Ichijo, a not particularly attractive MC. He doesn't have much of a personality, he just assumes the state of mind many would if a bunch of vaginas started wanting him--"Oh, hell yeah!" Kosaki is the female character famous for being cute. That's pretty much it for her. Seriously! Next up, we have Kirisaki, the transfer student (oh damn, doesn't this sound super familiar?) who is liked amongst the crowd for having blonde hair and that's pretty much it for her character. Tachibana is loved and hated, for being a cunt. In my opinion, she isn't too bad, her personality isn't over the top or anything. I don't see why many call her a cunt either. Tsugumi is one of the major harem girls. She is definitely my favorite character, she is cool when she needs to be cool, and your average youngster in love when she needs to be. Those are currently the main harem girls I have encountered so far. I bet that further in the manga, more and more girls are introduced, which is not surprising in any aspect.
Enjoyment: 8/10
I haven't read a "serious" and edgy manga in a long time, because of many reasons. If I can, I go out of my way to find non-serious manga. Nisekoi is an example, it is blooming with innocent enthusiasm and leaves a good taste in your mouth. It is the reason why I keep coming back for more chapters. Every moment of an avid manga reader's life, shouldn't they have that one manga they read when they just want to escape reality? Nisekoi is an example, because the manga's reality sounds very good and simple.
Overall: 6/10
I will read this manga to the end, I swear on that. It's not for the comedic factor. It's more for the enjoyment factor, something fun.
