Fair Warning:
A not-so-long mixed review about Zero no Tsukaima that is intended for people who have watched it. If you are a fan of the series that rated it as a 9/10 or something, I suggest that if you proceed on reading this, that you keep an open mind and try to think of my point of view.
So without further ado, let's begin.
Story: 7/10
So, first things first, a story about a boy, a 17 year old boy, who suddenly got Isekai'd while he was casually walking down the sidewalk like any normal human would do. He was sumoned by this pink haired girl(loli) named
...
Louise, who also happens to be a Noble in their magical world, which is sort of a magical version of Europe, I've watched stuffs like this before. Anyway, now that Saito is summoned in this world, he must now live his life as a "familiar" of this pink haired girl called Louise. They sealed the "contract" using a kiss, how uncommon. Anyway things take off from there and basically, this boy, Saito, is treated like shit, less than human, like a dog even, repeatedly, basically almost everyday, how enticing right? Getting isekai'd as a mere "Peasant" no less. And who treats him like this you ask? No other than his "master" Pink-Haired Girl Le Blanc de La Vallière. I'm not gonna go any more deeper on this, basically, things happen, bad things from here and there, bad guys appear here and there, some other stuffs, and then they fuc-, erhm, fell in love with each other. What's more is that this was happening while there was a choice for him to go back to his normal life and quit being a slave, but nah man, he fell in "love". Then he gets treated like shit again.
Art: 6/10
I have watched a fair amount of anime from this time period, the art is about what you'd expect, more or less. But if, maybe, just maybe, the budget was increased a little more, maybe it'd look better. Like Jigoku Shoujo, as far as I can remember, the art of this show was good. But the good points of this anime is that they try to show the fight scenes with much action as needed, and the animation doesn't get affected badly. So, I think it's good.
Sound: 7/10
I liked the OP and the ED. But I liked the OP better, it basically brings back memories, ah the nostalgia. Anyway, the sound effects were cool and all. The voice acting of the VA of Louise was the one that I liked the most, nothing less from Kugiyama Rie.
Character(s): 6/10
Oh man, this is where I get mixed feelings about, more on the negative side though. Especially with Le Blanc de La Vallière, AKA Louise the ZERO. I understand her situation, the fact that she's a noble and all, but boy, do she knows how to treat a human like shit. From being whip-happy (In her defense, there were some times were he deserved it, but too much is still too much) to making him sleep on the floor with only hay as a bedding, oh well, at least Saito isn't on a leash. Except for that one time. Also, this guy Saito, why doesn't he at least try and bring several things up with his "Master" about his treatment and all. Even after they became a "couple", he still gets treated like shit, and gets whipped. What was all that "character development" all about if these things happen again.
Enjoyment: 6/10
I can't say that I enjoyed this anime that much, but there are some parts that I enjoyed it, the rare cute parts of Louise being "dere" to Saito and the parts where he used things from the human world. But there's just too many negative things that I failed to ignore about the show. The biggest negative thing would be the character development with each other.
Overall: 7/10
This anime was on my mind for a long time, and I don't, in the slightest, regret watching it. It's not a waste of time like those anime that I've watched that I felt my brain rot and degrade over time just by watching it. I would recommend you to watch it if you could ignore the points that I pointed out above, other than that, I can say that the anime can be passed as good, if we weigh in all the good and bad things.
P.S. This Review is only exclusive to the FIRST SEASON (S1) and not, in any way related to the other seasons of the series. I plan on watching the others when I get the time.
That is all and thank you for reading.
