Hotaru no Haka/Grave of the Fireflies
Overall score: 7/10
I rarely find movies that can bring me to tears and I didn't expect this one to either. Well, I guess it surprised me! If you're into World War II, drama or history it's definitely worth watching, or perhaps if you feel like weeping for a while.
Story: 7/10
I enjoyed the story, it was a sweet, really touching tale that unfolds in the middle of the stormy World War II. The two orphans Seita and his little sister Setsuko, are doing the best they can to survive.
The story was rather predictable but despite that it was good.
It
...
kept me pretty much glued to my computer for the 90 minutes it lasted, which is great, because concentration is not my forte.
The ending didn't disappoint me either, it was a great way to end this movie.
Overall the story was a bit over average, good but not too amazing.
Art: 6/10
Cute art style! I was very fitting to the whole feeling of this movie.
I liked how the characters looked, even though I for the first 40 minutes thought that Setsuko was a boy. Despite that I think the art style was very good, and suited the mood of the movie!
Sound: 8/10
I watched this movie in Japanese with English subs. I think the voice actors did a pretty good job on this movie, the voices suited the characters.
The background music was really good, it was a perfect match with the atmosphere in every scene.
Character: 9/10
I loved the characters in this movie! Both main characters felt really realistic both in the way they reacted as well as their personalities. You can really feel the main characters growing throughout the movie, and you grow really attached to both of them.
Maybe the movie was a little bit too focused around the main characters, I would've liked to know more about other persons, but I guess it wasn't really that important.
I will definitely remember this cute relationship between brother and sister!
Enjoyment: 7/10
This movie was good and very cute indeed, but it's not one that I think I will re-watch.
It's definitely worth watching but I get the feeling it's one of those you forget kind of quick too.
You absolutely don't need to be a fan of anime or manga to enjoy this movie. To me it's like an above average World War II themed film.
Hope you enjoyed my review!
It was my first one and I hope I didn't do too many errors!
