You're the average anime-watcher, you're younger than twenty, and have never watched an anime that's harder to follow than let's say, Monogatari series, Durarara or sth like that—
Well, then don't expect to be able to understand Ergo-Proxy's plot and even if you watch it twice...
No other anime even comes close to the degree of mind-f*cknicity there is in Ergo-Proxy except for Serial Experiments Lain and Canaan.
Contrary to what other people are saying NGO only gets trippy in the last few episodes and even then it's not actually that hard to understand if you've ever dealt with depression. And I'm sorry but the Ghost in
...
the Shell movie doesn't even come close—
It starts kinda all over the place but if you put your mind to it, it's not hard to follow.
When i was at episode 15 I was still planning on giving it a 10 despite the hazy, gloomy art, as I was still not let down by the intriguing plot (which I thought I understood)... turns out, I had it completely out of the ball park.
The details are not hashed out properly and the anime fails to mention many key points.
Like the word 'clone' or 'child' isn't even mentioned once throughout the entire series...
Essentially I would have given this anime a 9 if only it had even a fraction of an explanation of the ACTUAL main plot (which I'm starting to think most people that watched it didn't even get) instead of a few vague frames here and there...
Basically, don't expect to understand the plot unless, from ep. 15 and onwards you have someone holding your hand, clueing you in on all the Greek metaphors the anime throws at you like them banana peels (which were clearly meant for your literature-teacher)...
