As a huge fan of the original fruits basket anime and having read the manga as well, I'm sad to say this remake has rather dissapointed me. Maybe I would not have felt this way if the remake was the first version that I watched. I was super excited when the remake was announced, so I had my hopes up. The art style looks nice, I had to get used to it al ittle but there was nothing to complain about.
My main issue with this remake is the directing. In the beginning of season one it looked like the director was obsessed with copying

the manga panel-by panel, and then later on in the season they started changing the order events compared to when they happened in the manga. I first noticed that it was bothering me around episode 7, when they told, Hatori's backstory. In the original version I'd always be bawling during that episode but the remake one just didn't do much for me.
It's the way the dialogue is delivered combined with the soundtrack the framing of the shots that just doesn't work sometimes. The music starts playing at weird intervals sometimes instead of when it's supposed to come in, and often they're more busy showing off the backgrounds (they're very pretty though) than creating interesting shots/angles. Then sometimes they add some random things to make it more dramatic ( like that time Tohru fell off the roof when talking to Ritsu) that weren't in the manga at all. Sometimes they're so obsessed with following the manga frame by frame and other times they screw over the whole chronological order of the show.
But seeing as I do love fruits basket's story, I don't hate it. It's just feels somewhat medicore compared to what it could have been.
