From the novel that's based on Salem's Lot, this is the single-handed best vampire fiction I've experienced thus far.
It is real, it is gruesome, and there's no competition I'm aware of.
From the onset to the outset you are put into a community tormented by an unknown menace, and the story works.
The acting is on point, the characters are believable all the time.
Oh the sounds. The importance of sound in shows really is understated at times, and in Shiki the sounds are astonishing, and most importantly impactful.
