This is my very first review but while it may be 7AM in the morning, I need to write this right after watching or I feel like I just might forget to write something very important, so while you see all these 10s as uninteresting to read through please bear with me.
For starters, if you are looking for the huge finale/the final arc of Violet Evergarden you are in the right place. This whole movie felt like a heartfelt "Thank you" letter from KyoAni to the fans and to everyone who supported and waited for them patiently to stand up on their own feet again
...
after the tragedy they went through.
- Story: 10
Like fore-mentioned the movie follows the events right after the ending of the 1st Season and tells the story of Violet's life after those events.
- Art: 10
This is KyoAni we are talking about. Not only did they not cut down on their losses after what happened, but they managed to provide an even more awe-inspiring art, a vibrant scenery where you could very well screenshot any scene in the movie and turn it into a wallpaper and an extremely fluid hand-drawn frame to frame animation that is just pure eye-candy~
- Sound: 10
You can clearly tell how much the voice actors all poured their very souls into making this movie as bright and as impactful as they possibly could. Especially ~Dio's~ Hodgins' aka Takehito Koyasu's performance was nothing short of perfect. As far as OSTs/Insert songs go you will see some very familiar and loved ones from the 1st season~
- Character: 10
To be honest I'd rate this section a 9.5 considering we never found out a "certain character's" identity. Other than that, if you want to see the whole cast interacting again with each other in the most fun and "interactive" way but also Violet reaching peak character development this is right up your alley.
- Enjoyment: 10
As you can guess I enjoyed this movie A LOT even if I watched it with a "handicap". 'Bawled my eyes out' would also be an understatement at how connected and sympathizing one can be to these beautifully written old and new characters~
Overall: 11/10 w/ a mini "spoiler"
While that rating might not exist, I can't stress enough that this movie manages to fully capture everything it ever aimed for, with just a very important and simple message to convey: 'Don't forget to say "Thank you" to the people you love from the bottom of your heart, because words are sometimes way stronger than actions'
This is just me being extra sentimental so feel free to ignore it -- It feels like we are witnesses to history being written in the form of a single studio called Kyoto Animation, of an anime, of a single letter, of a single girl who learned the true meaning of the words "I love you"
- Thank you KyoAni, from the bottom of our hearts for giving us this beautiful masterpiece and making our days just that much easier to get through~
