Writing "intelligent" characters and plots of two "geniuses" trying to unmask each other requires the author to have a certain amount of cleverness so as not to seem forced, full of "Deus ex machina" and still understandable. That's not exactly how things happen here.

Oh god, this is horrible. Without having any apparent intention of doing anything interesting or genuinely fun, this season of KonoSuba doesn't do much honor to the best season (The second). The film had already lowered my expectations A LOT, so in the end it was easier to accept this car accident.
Something that I always saw as functional in this anime was the idea of maintaining the same joke proposals based on the characters' disruptive and absurd personalities, changing the interactions and the context in which they are made to push them towards absurdity and comedy. One of the hardest things to do when creating a story is knowing how to balance all the dissonant elements and/or elements that don't necessarily "fit together", by simple logic. Therefore, it is very interesting to see an anime that combines shonen action, yokai, spirits, aliens, modernity, drama and romance, has managed to do this so well. Everything seems to fit, even though they shouldn't, but it works, somehow.
As for everything not related to the plot: A lively, charismatic and dissonantly uniform look; Charismatic characters with just the right amount of depth, not too much so that there is drama where there shouldn't be, not too ...

Probably one of the biggest depreciations an anime has ever had after a season. Perhaps for me, one of the main reasons that Re:Zero's plot was very attractive was a certain urgent situation. Since the first season, the structure of the arcs worked like complicated puzzles that Subaru needed to solve while suffering horrors beyond human understanding and, every now and then, episodes of breathing and rest.
So, it is with great regret that I say that this season was wrong in everything I could see. A plot that despite shouting urgency, is not treated as such by the characters or the plot. All the fights, ... |
