If you are looking for two great WHOLESOME anime look no farther! Hanasaku Iroha and Clannad (with After Story) are similar in the fashion of the main characters in each series (Ohana and Tomoya) are put in situations that create their growth from child to adult, while showing their progression through friendships, family and relationships. Both have to deal with the struggle of finding their own paths due to being raised by single parent who aren't necessarily the best guardian and end up finding a different place to call home. They both end up finding new people to look up to for guidance. With a dash of comedy along with realistic trials and tribulations, that you will feel the bonds and voids they create within the series.

Strike the Blood

Strike the Blood and the Monogatari series have many striking similarities. They both have a main lead male protagonist adjusting to becoming a vampire unwillingly. Also, a strong lead female protagonist who becomes romantically involved with the lead male. They also share meeting/helping various other girls with different powers and capabilities along the way. I would definitively recommend Monogatari if you enjoyed the Strike the Blood series for sure, and visa-versa.

To be honest since seeing Steins;Gate I have been looking for a psychological thriller along the same lines. With that in mind, now I've seen Re:Zero it's definitively in the same ballpark. Both have lead male protagonists that travel through time to try and save their loved ones while continuing to be effected by the pain of losing them over and over. The shows also have very well fleshed out character and story development along with a broad range of emotion. Many comedic, mysterious and dark tones make the feel of the shows to be parallel.

If you really enjoyed Angel Beats I would definitively consider watching the Haruhi series. If there is any shows that I have seen that are strikingly similar to Angel Beats, the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is the first that comes to mind. Both are very similar in their approach to the formula of the series. A main male protagonist gets pulled into a school club led by a strong female lead into a world he is unfamiliar with. Also both have another lead female character who is quiet, mysterious and very strong. Both have comical, emotional and serious subject matter that is shrouded in mystery. To summarize, they are both exceptionally great series in their own right and very unique.
