The King's Avatar takes mmorpg anime with a different approach. It focuses on characters playing MMO rather than characters being inside an MMO (SAO, LH, Overlord). It is not comparable to any anime thus far and it is the reason why it is so refreshing and enjoyable.
Its storyboard can be confusing and its animation can be lazy but in the end every episode that I watched ended up to be the most enjoyable 20 minutes out of all the other anime of the season that I follow.
Story: 6
The anime is definitely made to promote the LN and to cater to those who read the LN.
...
Therefore I would recommend everyone to read the LN before watching this anime. The anime itself is thin on story as it animates several key events in the LN without explaining too much of it. With only a limited number of episodes there is only so much they can put in.
In the beginning I liked the characters and the premise of the story. The lack of coherent story pushed me to read the LN which has tons of detail. For those that do not like to read LN can try reading the manhwa to better understand the story.
Art: 8
The art used in this anime is a nice change of pace compared to the usual japanese anime. Japanese anime would tend to go for, a lack of better word, 'cute' drawing style while here they have a more mature style. I would say that they have one of the nicest character designs as of late. Unfortunately the animation itself ranges from great to poor depending on the scene.
Sound: 8
There is nothing particularly notable other than it is (of course) chinese dubbed. I have no qualms concerning it and I find the dubbing to be adequate but I guess some people who always watch japanese dubbed anime might find it weird.
Character: 9
The characters are unique and memorable. Each of them have their own personality that fits them. Some are funny, some are serious. With great character design and and a different, chinese approach to humor I really enjoy watching the characters interact with each other.
Enjoyment: 9
Regardless of the story or the animation the king's avatar is enjoyable to watch. The fight scenes are like watching PvP matches. The other scenes usually involves interactions between the characters that ended up being witty or funny.
I would recommend this anime to someone who wants something new. It is unique and refreshing compared to other japanese anime that can sometimes feel repetitive. Try watching 1-2 episodes and If the premise, art and characters interest you then try reading the LN.
I wouldn't recommend this to those expecting a coherent story from the anime or top notch, consistent animation.
