Both mangas feature a boy who dedicates his life to doing what he loves (video games in one case, and video games and Magic: The Gathering in another). Both stories begin when the perfect girl in the class turns out to be just as dedicated to games/cards as our protagonist (secretly), and not only that, but she is also better than him. Thus begins a unilateral rivalry relationship. Also both take place in the 90's and are full of cultural references.

If you liked Wolf's Rain add

...then you might like Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou add

Both animes have very similar vibes: mysterious and post-apocalyptic future, snow everywhere, few humans, remnants of machines that suggest that there was a technological war, most of the animals extinct or on the verge of extinction. And both animes have a relatively slow passing. Another point in common is that both deal with some fairly philosophical issues. Anyway, Wolf's Rain has many more characters, more action, and a more complex story.
