fan of the game and animated game adaptions
will only compare what has currently happened to its game counterpart.
The Good
love the use of sounds and music ripped straight from the game.
the Bad:
7 eps in a not even a quarter thru the story, but they have plenty of uninteresting filler!
2b and 9s flip characters!
...
very different character in the beginning from the game, in the anime both characters just don't fit their ultimate character arc.
game 9s is indifferent but very curious to machines, to confidently hateful in the anime.
game 2b is serious, distant, and mission focused, to caring for the machine immediately in the anime.
pascals village
a machine village that is huge, where machine idealizes humans like humans would superheroes, very different but admirable. where everyone knows stories of humans and takes the role of ones they like. while very cool in the game, in the anime it seems the
entire place is comprised of just a few of annoying children. And the high focus on just a couple very annoying children and pascal (which idk but made him boring and unlikable) is just a completely different vibe
how could they completely skip the amusement park, and just jump right to the climax fight! its such a cool way of humanizing machines, with their efforts for showman ship. Aswell as just being one of the most memorable parts of the game. and for the final fight, the battle plays in sync with music in the game. but this was completely ignored in the anime!
but that is commonplace, butchering or removing very memorable parts, to be replaced with a large focus on unwanted filler.
This one hurt, emil going from very talkative and fun, riding around. to silent and stuck in a tree... although got to love that flash back scene to replicant during the hack. feels reminiscent of Deadpool, from loud and proud, to mouth sewn shut.
resistance camp
plenty of interesting characters there! to bad multiple eps are focused on the one character i don't remember, and barely a glance at anyone else.
and ofc so much side content that build characters and world, completely ignored.
what made the game special was how efficient Yoko Taro was when manipulating emotions. often hiding something powerful behind a veneer of something generic. but the changes just feel like generic anime.
Conclusion: ill keep watching for the few seconds per episode where something cool happens
