Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Magic is a central theme in the show. Spells, incantations, and magical items are commonplace.
One character says a brief prayer. They say, "...god of magic..."
Fanservice/Sexual Content/Nudity:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

Some rumors fly around briefly after a girl has to sneak out of a boy's window resulting in some misunderstandings. The mother of the said boy is actually happy at the idea of her son having a girlfriend in his room. Wow mom... really?

Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
6/10
The story was somewhat slow in developement and spent alot of time doing nothing much. It's points, when they did happen, failed to hold my attention.
That said, some people may relate more to the protagonist than I did. It does a decent job of telling her story.
The ending wasn't the most conclusive for all of the characters.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
Main character was actually pretty uninteresting. I didn't understand her whole worldview. It wasn't explained very much, it just made her a boring person.
Side characters, especially Hitomi's (young) grandma, were really fun to watch. They kept me interested in the show.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
10/10
The best part of this show. P.A. Works certainly outdid themselves with what we'd expect from a seasonal anime.
The backgrounds and animation are all spectacular throughout the whole thing. Photography is a central theme in the show, so many frame worthy shots are featured.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
6/10
OP was good. Not great, but good.
ED was there... yep.
Sound design was pretty good. The OST was notably pleasant and fitting throughout the show.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
6/10
The story didn't have enough momentum or really anything very interesting happening.
For a world brimming with commonplace magic, it was pretty boring and didn't maintain the sense of wonder that occasionally shone through.
Conclusion
Perhaps someone would like to see a world with magic were the primary uses thereof isn't violent. That's this show. Somewhat shojo-esque storytelling and a decent amount of interesting things to keep one engaged should slower-paced, nonviolent, school life shows be their thing.

Violence: \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Copious amounts of blood spray from knife wounds on monster-like things.
Ostensibly thousands of cells are sucked into the abyss of puncture wounds.
Citywide (bodywide) destruction ensues during emergencies. Buildings crumble and streets are uprooted.
Numerous knife fights between immune cells and various invaders. Characters are stabbed, bit, crushed, and slashed.
...
However, all the violence mentioned is fairly cartoony and not graphic.
Language:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Occasional mild language.
A few cases of moderate language.
Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Some places in the body are similar to a Japanese temple... go figure.
Fanservice/Sexual Content/Nudity:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Very minor instances that could hardly be considered fanservice.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
None.

Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
6/10
The plot of each episode followed a basic, repeated structure. Therefor, they were each mostly standalone.
There wasn't much of an overarching plot, and some of the episodes were a bit slower than others. However, the comedy throughout the series seems to hold up.
Perhaps some of the comedy is reliant upon one's understanding of biology.
Also, deus ex machinas... everywhere... but this is kind of a children's show. (Not to say that adults like myself won't enjoy it immensely)
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
6/10
Most of the characters weren't developed very far, they are just cells after all. However, the interactions between the characters kept them charming enough to not notice the lack of depth.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The animation was handled by Studio David, the same group behind Jojo's Bizarre Adventures. Their art style was on point and expressive throughout the whole series. I didn't notice any areas where the quality slacked at all.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
I could listen to the OP for days... literally.
The ED was by Garnidelia... I'd like to say 'nuf said, but some people may not understand how great Garnidelia is. Therefor, I will just tell you: They are great, this song is great too.
OST was fitting and kept with the momentum of the show.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
While the pacing of some parts may have been a bit boring, the rest of it made up for that in witty biology comedy and great fight scenes.
Conclusion
If you like shonen, comedy, and maybe some biology education, this show is for you. I recommend it.
The only reason I can think of that would counter-advise your viewing would be if you have a great aversion to bloody fights. This show has a lot of those.

Mild language throughout.
Several cases of moderate language. Nothing too offensive.
Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
None that I could discern.
Fanservice/Sexual Content/Nudity:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
While the premise may seem like the perfect set-up for some creepy-weirdness, the show remains remarkably tame. No overt fanservice was present and only brief, very minor things could be quantified as fanservice.
The main character does, however, frequently remind himself that the situation he is in, that of hanging out with high-schoolers (girls included), could be potentially illegal in some situations. He is also jokingly reminded by his handlers to not "jump" girls that visit his apartment.
Some characters joke about getting a girlfriend. One adult character briefly begins describing an illicit situation before getting cut off.
One song has some suggestive lyrics.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
The whole premise begins with the main character receiving and consuming a pill given to him by a stranger... needless to say, this is not the best example. In general, I suppose, the main character isn't supposed to be a good example for the first part of this show. Does that bother someone? Well sheesh, then why don't you just go watch a show about perfect people who never do anything wrong... oh wait... that would be boring.
Also, literal stalking is a job some characters hold. Complete with elaborate layers of deceit, counterfeit, and corporate support.
Detached Assessment
Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The story remained entertaining throughout and managed to sell it's comedy and drama well. Situations were generally believable aside from the wonky initial premise.
I feel like the story could have done with a slightly more drawn out conclusion, but it was still good.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
All of the characters were very well done in my opinion. Some were exceptionally well done to the point were you could almost cringe with how real they seemed. Sometimes the motivations people have in real life aren't pretty, just messy and visceral.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The show was based of a web comic, so the art style is somewhat simplistic. Not bad by any means though. It does a good job and never feels too much or too little... except when the crowds get partially (???) replaced by silhouettes in the last episodes.
The show often cuts into a comedic chibi art-style during certain jokes and stuff. However, it is these parts that end up being more stylized than you'd expect and it's great.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
The OP is good.
There is a different ED for EVERY SINGLE episode. I'm not even kidding. Some of these EDs are absolutely amazing, others are very unique and definitely noteworthy, some are just good.
OST fits and doesn't cause any problems.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The pacing kept the hijinks and drama rolling at equal paces. I could easily sit down and watch six of the episodes at a time.
Not once was I bored with the way things were going, it was all quite well done.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a good high-school comedy/drama with some light romance and almost no fanservice, this is the show for you.
I can't really think of a reason why someone shouldn't watch this show, it's very good with almost no drawbacks for what it is.

Violence: \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Slapstick shenanigans abound.
Blasts of magic destroy the environment and magical constructs during occasional fights.
A sword fight ensues in one episode.
Some characters briefly, and somewhat comically, produce torture equipment and state their intention to use them. However, they are quickly reprimanded and foiled.
...
Language:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
I only heard 1 or 2 light curses.
Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Witch-themed spirituality abounds. The themes, however, don't attempt to be serious and are generally in context with the shows comedic appeal.
Ghosts, spirits, and various other magical things abound.
Fanservice/Sexual Content/Nudity:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Very minor fanservice in the form of short skirts and slightly revealing stage garb.
One episode had a magical bee sting people, causing them to fall in love with the first person they saw. We briefly see some victims gazing longingly at members of the same gender. The overall tone was just another hijinx though.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Some people may be offended by the setting of a witch's school. However, it's clear that the form of magic in this show isn't any more demonic than Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. Nonetheless, some people can still be triggered by the word "witch".
The main character behaves in a disrespectful manner towards authority figures for a while.
Detached Assessment
Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
Individual plots remain episodic for most of the show. An overarching plot does an ok job of tying is all together.
Deus ex machinas abound throughout the major plot points. However, this is a Studio Trigger show after all... perhaps we should just be thankful there weren't any aliens.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
Characters were all likable and fun to watch.
Development seems to be a little lacking for some of the characters. However, others were done quite well and had satisfying character arcs.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
Studio Trigger's art style has been described as stylized minimalism. I must say that they excel at this style and do not disappoint throughout the show.
Sakuga fights scenes... just awesome.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
OPs were good, not super unique though.
EDs were good too. These however, were worth keeping to listen to again and again.
OST fit well and complemented the scenes.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The pacing may not have driven the main plot forward all the time, but each episode stood on it's own virtue with their comedic value.
Conclusion
If you enjoy Trigger's brand of crazy, this will definitely appeal to you.
Shonen themes abound, so those fans will also find this entertaining.
If you have a problem with the terminology surrounding witches... then the name should have turned you off.
If you don't have a problem, this show is definitely worth your time if you are looking for some quality entertainment.

Widespread city destruction caused by an massive earthquake and it's aftershocks.

Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
The story initially seemed a little slow paced, but merited a second watch after seeing the ending.
The slow pace that the story takes doesn't detract from the enjoyment. After all, the show is only 11 episodes long.
Oh my goodness though, it is so very worth it. I couldn't say much more about the plot's virtues without straying into spoilers. Just watch it.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
Some of the main characters may come off as annoying at first, but their development causes you to care for and sympathize with them later on.
People generally act like you'd expect them too in an emergency. All in all, they are very human.
Some dialogue seems kinda tacked on.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
Honestly, the worst part of the show. While Studio Bones handled the animation, the quality thereof is nothing to marvel at. Some might even say it was bad in some spots.
However, the show doesn't have a plot that lends itself to sakuga covered action scenes. Therefor, the art is good for what needs to be done.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The OP is by Abingdon Boys School and therefor, awesome. However, a J-rock song doesn't really feel like it fits with this kind of story.
The ED is a pleasure to listen to. It reminds you of the feeeeeels. It's great.
OST fits fine.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
This show didn't take long to watch and rewatch at only 11 episodes. I can say it was well worth the time spent.
The story really helps you sympathize with the things people in earthquake-prone countries have to go through when the inevitable happens.
Conclusion
A wonderfully touching story with a serious and realistic setting that managed to make me cry multiple times.
If you like disaster films and heart-wrenching twists, you will enjoy Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.
There really isn't a lot to contraindicate your enjoyment of this show, unless you're significantly picky about animation quality and plot pace.

Detached Assessment
Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The story covers mature and depressing themes that mirror those of World War II. Indeed, the story makes clear callbacks to that time as well.
The story is very interesting and makes a good introduction to the universe of Leiji Matsumoto.
However, truckloads of sci-fi catgackery and deus ex machinas may cause some people to become disinterested.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
Captain Harlock represents a character archetype that has clearly had widespread influence in fiction.
The supporting characters are well done and likable as well. Even the primary antagonist was a likable person.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The art is dated... what do you expect from 1978?
That said, this film did a really good job with what was available to it at the time. The action scenes are surprisingly smooth and detailed. The backgrounds are just amazing in some spots.
Leiji Matsumoto's characters often look very similar to each other. Most of the women's faces are the same, many extras don't differ from each other at all, and the Illumidus commanders all have the same hair/eyebrows/face.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
The OST is what you'd expect from a space opera movie. The orchestral score is good, but nothing to write home about.
The insert/ending song is pretty good though. I going to listen to that again.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
This was a very good space drama movie that had some neat messages to convey about freedom, honor, and friendship.
The movie was pretty long, clocking in just over two hours, but that added to the epicness of it in my opinion. This is one to watch with the family on movie night.
Conclusion
If you like space, drama (perhaps to the extent of melodrama), or strong role models, you will enjoy this show.
Those who like allusions and imagery related to World War II will also find something interesting here.
If you don't like manly men being menly in a manly fashion... move one.

Story was nice and occasionally sweet. It might have taken it's time in some spots, even for a series that's only one cour long.
It's definitely a pleasant plot to watch unfold, but sometimes it doesn't feel like anything new and can be predictable. However, that may not be a problem if you know what your looking for.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

The characters were realistic in the sense that they all had good things and bad things about them. This made them simultaneously relatable and annoying.
One could say that some lack maturity or tact in social situations. Painfully awkward situations are frequent, but perhaps that is just in keeping with this show's grounded romantic theme.

Primarily sword fights tinged with some fantasy elements. Little to no blood is ever present as the fights are not to the death. Instead they take on the feel of the sport fencing instead.
Nonetheless, some injury results from fights occasionally. Minor injuries that is.
A building is burned down, supposedly with many people still inside.
One person is stabbed through the abdomen, bloodlessly. Though it is not very clearly seen, it is obvious that another person is stabbed repeatedly with a multitude of swords.

Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Some mysterious power is referred to as "Dios".
One person waxes philosophical about God and the things He has given to us.
One person states that God created men and women as separate genders for a reason. This was in context with him trying to talk some sense into his sister whom he mistakenly assumed was a lesbian.
One character is described as a witch... nothing much is said about what that even means though.
Fanservice:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Some unfeatured nudity on a few occasions and in a closing sequence as well as the duel preparation sequence.
Occasional mild fanservice in the form of track outfits.
Erotic imagery of male characters is sometimes present for seemingly no reason whatsoever other than for the characters in question to revel in their own attractiveness.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Multiple characters could be insinuated to have lesbian feelings. In some of these cases that may not be true, but it can be uncomfortable nonetheless.
There is a lot of manipulation of feelings and desires in this show. Many people are taken advantage of, some are even abused.
There is some incest and incestuous feelings.
[spoilers]
Multiple characters are promiscuous. One seems to have relations with nearly every woman he meets. It is frequently implied his sister is one of them.

Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
Most of the episodes fit into a formulaic structure of another challenger being introduced, their story expanded on, and them fighting Utena. However, these side characters stories were very interesting and well told.
The main story was interrupted a few times by comedy filler episodes. The gags therein ranged from hilarious to cringeworthy... mostly the prior though.
The plot ruthlessly subverts your expectations for the genre it seems to fall into. Revolutionary Girl Utena has been called the "Evangelion" of shojos. It certainly earns that title.
[spoiler]
Another, less desirable, way that RGU can be compared to NGE is it's ambiguous and slightly unsatisfying ending. This is a debatable point however. Some may find the ending to be perfectly satisfying.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
The show's breakdowns of characters typically bound in shojo tropes was very ahead of it's time. This is a good thing, as it makes it even more applicable today when there is more material found in the genre it is deconstructing.
Most of the side cast was not likable, instead they were bonified dirtbags. This doesn't mean, however, that the viewer won't sympathize with them, the opposite is true. The characters have flaws very familiar to us highlighted and expanded upon so that their motivations and struggles are clear and understandable.
That being said, there were still some times that decisions made by certain characters seemed out of place and broke immersion a little.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The art style is very in tune with a typical shojo title. The men are all fabulous looking, and everyone seems to have impossibly fantastic hair in many different colors.
This show, being as old as it is, does look quite dated though. The animation is frequently still and sometimes jerky. Recycled animation shows up just about every episode.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
10/10
JA Seazer certainly created many a masterpiece in this shows soundtrack.
OP, both EDs, and OST were all absolutely sublime. You must listen to them.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
This show was a very interesting reverse-shojo that held my attention in bursts. The long runtime and occasionally slow development make this one a difficult watch if your in a hurry though.
Conclusion
A breakdown of shojo tropes and a mindbender to the end. Fans of psychological shows with a bit of fantasy will enjoy this.
Those who will be offended by allusions and imagery related to incest and possible homoeroticism should probably skip this though.

Violence: \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Mostly giant robots beating on each other. That is a lot cooler than it sounds though.
Large amounts of mechs loaded with people throw themselves into battles where many are destroyed.
Some people are injured while piloting mechs. We see blood ooze from wounds.
[Spoilers]
...
Widespread mech destruction eventually involves throwing around entire galaxies... without any regard to the possibility of living beings existing in said galaxies.
Language:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Mild language throughout.
Maybe there was some moderate language... I can't remember.
Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
One episode highlights an underground society where the people worship an deactivated mech and listen to a religious leader teaching from some book he can't even read.
[Spoilers]
The antispiral seem to aspire God-like control over the universe.
Fanservice:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Perpetual overt fanservice from one bikini-wearing character. The camera frequently ogles her body. Needless to say, this is distracting.
Mild fanservice in other areas occasionally pops up.
I've heard there is a bathing scene, but it seems that some versions have this cut. The English dub on Amazon Prime is one such version.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
The main characters see themselves as VERY masculine and are proud of it. They showboat their antics and shout all the time. Personally, this doesn't offend me, but maybe your a misandrist or somethin'.

Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
7/10
While the story is engrossing and entertaining, it frequently uses fairly dumb reasons for important stuff to happen. That being said, that is somewhat the theme of this entire series. It remains awesome in spite of it's dumbness under analysis.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
10/10
The characters are very likable and have interesting personalities.
Development of the main character is quite spectacular. The side characters are focused on occasionally as well.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
The art was great except for one episode where it was just terrible. I mean, what even happened there? Anyways, that was just one episode. The rest of the show's art was wonderful.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
OP is really good.
First ED is ok, but the second one is amazing. One of my favorite anime songs ever.
OST is really good as well. Worth keeping around.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
Fast paced mecha action, brash manly tirades, and over the top everything. Just what we'd expect from the production team behind it.
All said, this is a very enjoyable show is you don't mind some zany plot points.
Conclusion
Fans of mecha, shonen, and manliness will enjoy this show.
It is one of the better super-robot shows out there, but the fanservice is annoying. Annoying, however, does not constitute an unwatchable quality. This is a great and exciting show in spite of it's fanservice.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya
Discernment Topics
Violence: \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Minor scrapes and bruises result from everyday accidents.
One man falls on his head into a pot. We are told that he died from this.
Language:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
...
None.
Spiritual Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
One man hastily offers a prayer when witnessing a fantastic occurrence.
This man makes the assumption that "heaven" is directing him to perform various tasks.
[Spoilers]
A procession of beings from the moon accompany a figure who looks just like Buddha. They certainly display celestial ability by turning arrows into flowers.
Fanservice:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
None.
However, the film has no compunction about casual nudity in the context of breastfeeding in one case, and small children who generally don't wear underwear. This is, however, in line with the time period's attire.
Nudity of small children and babies is present in the beginning of the film.
Misc. Suggestive Content:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
The main character learns to steal food in one case. One person mentions stealing as a necessary action in times of starvation.
Multiple side characters are stated to have multiple wives, and in some cases ignore that fact to pursue other relationships. This is, however, not condoned.
Detached Assessment
Story:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
10/10
The plot was engaging and emotionally affecting.
There were lessons to be learned from the story that will stick with me for a long time. I was deeply affected by it's poignant portrayals.
Characters:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
10/10
Princess Kaguya is one of the best female characters in all of fiction. Strong, but not overbearing or annoying. A good example of humility and kindness, but also of struggle and grief. Her experiences and the desire thereof are the catalyst for everything in the film.
Side characters are well done, and complement the story admirably.
Art:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
The entire film is in a unique, hand-drawn, oil painting style. While some may appreciate the aesthetic, and one can certainly get used to it over the course of the film, it may offset some people's enjoyment and be distracting.
Other than that, the art was particularly striking and fitting for some scenes.
Sound:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
8/10
Music was fitting and decent.
ED was haunting and sad. Good.
Enjoyment:\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
9/10
While I wasn't the biggest fan of the unique art style (which may simply be due to my boorish experience in visual arts) I supremely enjoyed the rest of the film.
[Spoiler]
The ending was a bit of a downer, but the lessons exemplified by it were so poignant that it must be recognized for it's greatness.
Conclusion
I highly recommend this film to those who enjoy stories exploring emotion or giving good life lessons.
