Shounen Kenya

Movies from the early 80's that trade historical fidelity and basic logic for sheer uniqueness and memorability. Both include stylised depictions of nuclear disasters, unintentionally funny lines of dialogue and absurd character moments. Hadashi no Gen has some really hard-hitting emotional moments, while Shounen Kenya is just crazy 24/7 and utilizes many "avant-garde" animation techniques to complement that.

The SoulTaker: Tamashii-gari
|
Early 2000's shows with very attractive character designs and just interesting visuals in general. Both have basically nonsensical (sometimes laughable) storylines, with weird sibling connections, female harems, mecha-esque creatures figthing aliens and some existential monologues (usually about being an alien or not).

Lupin III: Cagliostro no Shiro

Fun group of neatly designed characters with good chemistry. Originated from TV series and directed by high-profile directors (Miyazaki and Hosoda). Castle of Cagliostro actually inspired Mamoru Hosoda when he was in 6th grade, hence why his own movie shares so many similarities with it.
