This was the best and worst manga I’ve ever read. It delivers a heart wrenching narrative with fantastic linework/art. This manga proved to me that as long as the artwork and story are compelling people will read anything. Although I don’t say that to discredit the high-class writing of the manga.
Punpun is a flawed character, but not in the typical way manga usually create their protagonists to be. There was no wretched backstory, evil incentive, antagonist, or anything of that sort. Gachiakuta is a story surrounding the main character Rudo. The power system is very unique and is about the idea of 'trash/garbage' and a human connection to it. (Essentially imbuing life into an item special to you). While there are other factors of it, that's the plain and simple explanation.
In the beginning, the story seemed to be progressing very slowly, but once you get introduced to the majority of the cast the plot sparks with life.
