Konosuba is arguably one of the greatest comedies of all time. Mixing genuinely amazing and hilarious characters with out of the world scenarios along with great action is the norm for the show. It is however, a character driven comedy first and foremost so hearing that the spinoff features only Megumin from the main cast is definitely going to be a bit disappointing for some. Fear not though, as Konosuba An Explosion on This Wonderful World (Or Bakuen for short) is an absolute gem that can stand up with the best of it's genre. Megumin has always been a great character and seeing her backstory ... and the lore behind her village and everything is a treat to see to say the least. This isn't some spinoff made just to cash in on Konosuba and Megumin's popularity though, it is absolutely necessary going forward in the story and helps expand the lore of the Konosuba world. It's more akin to Better Call Saul, where you find that the character you loved watching had many more layers than you thought. And just like Better Call Saul, Bakuen also has a lot of characters who are coming back from the original series in this prequel. This is as much as a Yunyun backstory as it is a Megumin origin story and their friendship/rivalry is truly something to behold. Megumin's hilarious family and the rest of her village are also prominently featured and they never fail to impress.

However, going forward there will also be a lot of original characters in Bakuen that aid and/or serve as antagonists later in the story and as a LN reader, they are all treats as well. I HIGHLY recommend you watch this, as it's definitely the best fantasy and comedy show airing this season.

It's Konosuba with a higher budget. The animation in this movie is the peak of character animations as they come. Many people say that this movie has bad animation and any animator can tell you this is not the case. Animation is not made exclusively for taking screenshots, it's for movement that can tell you what someone is feeling without any use of dialogue if needed and this movie fully embraces that.

Not to mention there are plenty of great animated moments accompanied by stellar music that can make you genuinely excited for a scene in a comedy movie.

With all that said though, as someone ... who has read the Light Novels it was a bit weird to see some really funny and heartfelt moments cut but if you're an anime only or you don't mind nitpicking, this movie can be a perfect 10.

Konosuba is like hanging out with some of your best friends. The amount of craziness and heart there is in this show is obvious in the first few episodes. It may not be for everyone, but you'll be hard pressed to be find something this consistently funny. My favourite portion of Konosuba has to be, strangely enough, the ending songs. They give off a chill early evening and laid back calmness that strangely fits in with this over the top world.

Of course, this show wouldn't be half as fun if it weren't for the amazing sound design, the absolutely phenomenal voice actors and the ... purposefully jank animations. Not to mention Kazuma is a fresh breather from all of the bland Male Protagonists we see in anime these days. Really excited for the new content.
