RE: Creator demonstrates what you can do when you build for an anime from the ground up. Brilliant pacing, meaningful flashbacks and MOVEMENT. This is how it should be done. All with 22 pre-planned episodes in an era of the 13 episode "trailers" for light novels. Hell, even the recap episode is amazing.

TROYCA is a brand new studio is putting out original anime(not based on Manga or LN) in an era where that is rare. Not only that but they have amazing production quality. Currently the WORST anime they have created is AldNoah.Zero which while lacking is in now way ... a bad anime. They are also attracting a lot of interesting talent: Gen Urobuchi(Madoka Magica), Sawano Hiroyuki( THE SAWANO DROP), Ei Aoki (Fate/Zero), Rei Hiroe (Black lagoon).

An otherwise masterpiece of a series is marred by a abysmal final episode.

If you can enjoy each episode individually you should watch this series. But if you feel the ending of a story determines its value as a whole, then skip Mekakucity Actors.

Episodes 1-10 are easily a 9, maybe a 10. They visuals are brilliantly executed and the characters and situations are well written. They make good use of foreshadowing and suspense.

Unfortunately this series was clearly planned to run for 24 episodes and it only got 12. Some time after they completed episode 10, the studio canceled 13-24. Creators tired to ... condense the remaining 12 episode into 2, but it did not go well. Episode 11 came out passable, but Episode 12 is almost unwatchable. Its just not possible to wrap up a plot as nuanced as Mekakucity Actors in 2 episodes.

I still give this series an 8 because it is a good series, it just got unlucky with a terrible ending. For me episode 12 can't destroy the enjoyment I derived from episodes 1-11. I simply ignore episode 12 ever happened.

The single biggest disappointment I have ever had in an anime. The first episode was a perfect 10 in every way and gave me high hopes of the rest of the series.
But is was not to be. As the series progressed plot holes and character inconsistencies accumulated and compounded. By the 8th episode I knew all was lost, but I watched the slow motion train-wreck through to the bitter end.


The first episode and several of the ballet/battle sequences are must watch, but stupidity of the overall show may cause your brain to explode(and not in the good way)

This series would be worth ... watching for the brilliant music and animation, but
I can't recommend watching this series in good continence because of how the plot and characters are butchered.

Most of this series is semi-constant and believable, but why bother if you are going to screw shit up in the last episode? That and the characters and story excellent but they crashed and burn after episode 9 or so. This series got an 8 instead of a 10 because they fucked up so bad.

This series could have been a great and very realistic series worth of a 10 if they had extended it, taken time to expand on the implication of relativistic travel and spent more time ... on the characters reaction to the "he's my bro" reveal. Instead they cut it short and made crap. Come on: ships being "swept away", what the hell! Is space viscous? Are all those ships flying around in massage oil?

It's worth watching, but it could have been so much more. Prepare yourself for disappointment.
