You have a point. I can't really wrap my head around ecchi anime as a concept. For whatever reason there's a strict separation in my head between stories and porn. I can't understand why someone would watch this dog isekai if they could just read some actual hentai. And I'm not above reading some messed up stuff. But for some reason when it's an anime, which I equate subconsciously as "narrative media", I cannot accept any titillation (though I would accept if it's tasteful and actually relevant to the story). It's probably just a matter of me not quite knowing how to relate or engage with ecchi. And definitely watching with friends would make it go down easier. Nonetheless, the score stays, for now...

Made in Abyss on a whole could be criticized as "torture porn", but the Bondrewd stuff probably *is* torture porn with very little optimism to counteract it. I was despondent when I read it in the manga, and I have no desire to experience it again with the movie. I was reluctant even to watch season 2, but I hear it really comes together thematically in the end. My manga experience was a blur, so i do need to remind myself with the watch. Will probably never watch the movie though! Ugh, do I even want to remember what "papa pole" was?

That's understandable. I doubt you'll like his one-shots much then. I read the manga first so that's more of what I'm used to. But my issue with the manga was I felt pretty disconnected from the characters and couldn't really figure out what I was supposed to feel in the last few volumes. From what little I've seen of the anime, it has you more firmly in characters' emotional headspaces, and also the pacing isn't quite so frenetic. If the story weren't so fresh in my mind, I might have fully watched the anime and even preferred how it executed the story versus the manga. But that's just my speculation.

You're at the same spot I'm at in the manga! Glad to see you liked it as much as the anime! I recommend you check out Tatsuki Fujimoto's one-shot mangas (Look Back, Goodbye Eri) for a slightly different side of his storytelling. They are what convinced me to give CSM a shot in the first place.
