Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
When I first layed my eyes on Rainbow I didn't think much of it.
An anime about the life of being in jail, sounds pretty simple right? But boy was I wrong. Inmate Sakuragi knowing of a dark secret that unfolded years ago in the Reform Jail. Is haunted endlessly by a corrupt guard & perverted Doctor, who's goal is nothing more than keep that dark secret from reaching the light of day. Forcing Sakuragi in an empty life behind bars. Following this exhilarating story of the bonds of friendship, dreams, & the struggle for survival. Our main characters look to aid

their fellow cell mate Sakuragi from the evil clutches of the antagonists. With no stop in the constant flow of action, even dare to blink and you're guaranteed to miss a good part. There's no denying how absolutely brutal and hard of a tone this anime is. Masters at expressing these dark tones, the violent atmosphere, & the realness of the anime. Makes it one of the best thriller anime's I've watched to date. Definitely not something for the weak of heart, sorry kids!
Let's not get hung up on only the story though. Rainbow deserves a lot more praise than just on its amazing plot. The music choice that is used in Rainbow deserves some too. It's like listening to a track brought down by the Angels themselves. I don't think they could of used any better music than what they did. As well as using those glorious tunes in the right moment is also key, which btw they nailed. I found myself even humming the songs. I guarantee you that there is no episode that wont have a song worthy of a place in your playlist.
Alternately, another thing going for Rainbow is the characters. Emphasizing again on the realness of the anime. The characters are portrayed in a manner that complements the anime's heaviness.
The showing of many different layers each character has. The feelings that you get, where its almost as if you are watching real people go through these hardships. The emotional impact that each character undergoes, makes it almost impossible not to sympathize with them.
Less enjoyable factors about Rainbow do exist however.
The art isn't anything that will have your jaw dropping. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. It's not like it makes me gauge my eyes out or anything. It's just completely average, nothing really special about it except for a something here and there. Rainbow also suffers from pacing issues. The story takes a hit here, where the 2nd half of the anime feels rushed in episodes. Almost as if we're skipping from one idea to the next.
Nevertheless, I still greatly enjoyed Rainbow. From the speechless emotional moments, to the fantastic music produced. I would recommend this for anyone mature enough to take it.
