I think the greatest coincidence between the two shows is how their japanese protagonists look alike. Eiji (Banana Fish) and Seiji (The case Files of Jeweler Richard, hereinafter The Case Files) have a similar appearance and personality that in the end causes both to be involved in the affairs of their respective foreign partners. In addition, in both there is a certain Bl air without becoming Bl but with certain doses of fanservice.
