This is my first review here on MAL. I hope everybody here can get a good idea of what this show is about, and what you can expect from Seven Deadly Sins or Nanatsu No Taizai.
"nanatsu no taizai is another round of the mill shounen 0/10 do not recommend......BAHAHAHA yeah right."
All jokes aside.
The basic underlining of this show can be summed up to ones burden or "sin" if you will. We all have something we regret doing in our lifetime whether it is something small like eating your room mates food, or as bad cheating on a test. This is the premise of Nanatsu No
...
Taizai. One's sin.
To start off i'd like to say that i stumbled upon this show by accident. I found myself watching abridged episodes and, auto-play being what it is, brought me to Nanatsu No Taizai.
First let's get one of my dislikes out of the way.
Playing it safe.
This is why it get's a 9 from me. Playing it safe is also probably why it's not as popular as other shonen, i think the fact that it does this is the reason the series is held back a bit.
Plot convenience is also fairly prevalent here, although that could be summed up because of the OP nature of the main cast.
BUT!.
This anime is by no means predictable, it does a great job at surprising you with it's jacked-up action scenes and it's random(where the hell did that comes from?)scenes. But seeing as how strong the main characters are, it's really hard for the writers to work outside of this box. With everything this anime throws at you, it get's kind of dumbed-down, although with quite a few twists and turns. This is subjective as it was my own expectation that allowed this sort of thinking in the first place.
Story.
I don't really have much to say here except that this show does have a solid story and is well worth investing yourself in. It cuts right to the chase with the basic formula and setup of the world. But this is by no mean's the bottom line. You will soon find out that while it does have a pretty basic premise to start off with, it evolves into much more when backstories come into-play. The fan-service is hilarious and isn't over the top, and the story is very well rounded with some conclusions to be made in a second season(or so it's hinted at the end). This does not hinder the ending at all.
It has a good amount of(let's not fuck around)moments which in my opinion adds to the overall enjoyment. Which is why i slightly compare it to the higher rated shonen :)
Art and Design.
There's not much to say here really. It's absolutely gorgeous!. I especially love the fantasy style they went for, and to this day i haven't really seen anything similar to what they've done, in this industry alone of course.
Characters.
Every single character has a use and a good backstory, except for a couple side characters that didn't really have much screen time.
The main leading protagonist meliodas...well to put it simply, he's amazing!.
The main female protagonist, while i thought to be slightly annoying at first had some really awesome moments and doesn't beat up the main character for every little thing they do(which in my opinion, when you save somebodies life 21 times...you get it.)well...he does get beat up by Diane a lot. The main female leads development throughout the anime and toward the end was very well done. The others characters are way to likable, and are a lot deeper than your typical shonen character.
Sound.
Sawano . The music itself is your classic medieval fantasy-esc sound, with quality skyrocketing as the anime further develops.
Enjoyment.
This anime has absolutely everything you could wish for. Comedy, parody, action, story, good character development, art and a great OST. It is by far one of my favorite shonen of all time!.
Overall
I think this anime deserves a lot more attention than it currently has, and i don't say these things lightly. In-fact i never have. Some people call this anime "generic shounen" oh boy is it anything but that. It pokes fun at itself and other generic shounen while maintaining it's own dignity, premise and story in the process.
For a show of this quality it is a very underrated anime. i've never seen this specific anime mentioned anywhere. Not here, not facebook, nowhere in particular. I know this doesn't mean it's underrated but compared to some of the bigger titles it has little to no mention or recommendation, even though this particular anime is equivalent to if not better than a lot of the Shonen i've watched and deserves much more attention.
So in conclusion to my enjoyment of this anime, i will be supporting these developers in any way i possibly can, whether that is through buying copies or spreading the word.
9/10
Extremely enjoyable to watch.
