One Punch Man doesn't break any new ground with its story, re-using a lot of elements found in other shounen anime with the classic Saturday morning cartoon feel. However, its execution of these classic elements is strong enough that it is very enjoyable to watch despite its lack of originality.

The cast in this show is likeable yet underdeveloped across the board, the main protagonist Saitama is always enjoyable to watch when he's on screen but at the same time I couldn't help but want more from these characters. There is zero character development in this show, what ... you see is what you get from the moment these characters appear on screen. This may be a deal breaker for some but for those that care more about action and humour you should be very satisfied.

The characters in One Punch Man are carried by their excellent character designs, solid voice acting (English dub) and cool abilities. There is plenty of variety when it comes to the fighting styles and techniques used by the enemies which helps to keep the show feeling fresh despite its formulaic approach to story telling and the action scenes are excellent with really nice visuals and animation.

The music used is also quite decent, with some very effective music used to add to the intensity of the action sequences.

All in all, what you see is what you get. its a classic Shounen with lots of action and humour that ultimately results in One Punch Man being an entertaining yet unoriginal show.

My god what a snoozefest.

The first season of this show was overrated enough but the fact that this season is almost in the top 100 highest rated anime of all time is hilarious. Eren's whining is as insufferable as ever, the few cool characters like Mikasa and Levi don't get enough screentime and scenes feel severely dragged out. Nevermind that, the show expects you to care about characters that haven't been fleshed out which is the greatest sin of all.

I might force myself to watch season 3 since people hype it up so much but man I'm begging AoT fans to watch their 2nd ... anime.

Going in, I was quite excited to finally watch Psycho-pass. I knew it was a very popular show at one point and was looking forward to checking out a sci-fi seinen anime.

Unfortunately, Psycho pass is held back by bland characters and pretentious writing. Too many minutes in this show consist of long winded rants about the world that just become boring and irritating as the show goes on. On top of that, there is a real lack of ‘entertainment value’ from the plot as you are essentially watching a slow detective show with a sci-fi skin.

That said, the show has very nice ... visuals, some effective world building and a great soundtrack. The voice acting for the dub is also excellent.

All in all, I wouldn’t recommend Psycho pass but I can see the appeal.

Painfully Overrated:

Cowboy bebop has a lot of charm, likeable characters with interesting personalities, very nice visuals, a cool world that is a refreshing spin on the sci-fi genre and some fun moments here and there. However 'personality' isn't enough to keep me invested in a show.

I need a real storyline with an overarching plot, character development and stakes. Unfortunately Cowboy Bebop doesn't seem to offer that, instead it follows the slice of life saturday morning cartoon structure where each episode feels disjointed and most of the episodes are essentially sidequests that don't relate to any main plot aka filler.

I quite enjoyed the first ... handful of episodes but I found myself getting really bored and would only recommend this show to those that are just looking to switch their brain off and watch something in the morning while eating their breakfast before school.

I feel like BLAME! is the very definition of mid. Its kinda boring, kinda mediocre and kinda low quality. At the same time though there are enough elements that kept me interested until the end.

The unique art style, the cool enemy design, the intriguing setting. These might be enough to satisfy some people and for others they most definitely will not be. The characters are one dimensional, the writing is pathetic and the animation leaves a lot to be desired.

If someone asked me if I regretted watching BLAME! my answer would be no. If someone asked me if I would recommend that other ... people spend 2 hours of their lives watching this mediocrity, my answer would also be no.

Going in, I knew very little about Perfect Blue. A YouTube video came up in my recommended, praising the movie and so when I went to watch it myself all I knew was that it was some psychological thriller of some kind.

To start off, the visuals of this movie have definitely aged. I wouldn't say it looks bad necessarily, some of the character designs particularly the protagonist look nice and I like the colour palette but the animation could be a lot better. The characters themselves are also pretty surface level apart from the protagonist who is quite likeable and interesting.

When it comes ... to the story, well its a mixed bag. I think the first half is great, with nice pacing, an interesting premise and a likeable protagonist. However the 2nd half for me became very difficult to follow. Scenes feel very disjoined and although I understand why, to me it just became hard to care about what was happening and started to feel too bizarre. Also I feel like the movie could have done a better job of explaining the motives of some of these characters.

All in all, this movie is carried by its premise and protagonist. Its worth watching for those that are fans of the genre but I feel like those who aren't will just find this movie to be too nonsensical and strange.

All flash and no substance.

Violet Evergarden ticks a lot of boxes, its got beautiful visuals, pretty good voice acting, a unique premise and an interesting protagonist. However the severe lack of plot and over reliance of melodrama makes this show a chore to watch for me. A lot of people will really like this show but personally I just felt like there was too little happening and each episode too disjointed for me to care about what was happening.

Its ultimately a slice of life anime with pretty visuals and emotional music to convince you that the story is more engaging than what it actually ... is. This feels more like an art piece for pretentious snobs than for the everyday anime fan.

A disappointing conclusion to a great anime.

After watching the excellent Season 2 late last year, I was really looking forward to Mob Psycho 3 but decided to hold off on it due to the change in voice actors which I found quite jarring. Now that I've finally gotten around to watching it I'm honestly pretty disappointed. This season for me was a mess, with terrible pacing, episodes that feel completely out of place, storylines that don't really go anywhere or relate to an overarching plot. It just feels very messy to me.

I started to get hooked towards the middle of the season as Mob finds ... himself in a difficult situation but then it just quickly boils over and the show just goes back to being a happy slice of life anime which I found bizarre. Episode 8 in particular made me question why I was even watching the show, its so out of place. Tonally the show is all over the place and doesn't even seem to know itself what story it is trying to tell. Just random episodes that feel disconnected except for a couple of episodes in the first half relating to Dimple which felt like they were building towards something greater only to fizzle out.

This season also has by far the weakest fight scenes of any season with a serious lack of action that made the show quite boring at times, aside from one episode with Dimple which I found to be excellent. The voice acting is decent but I do think the replacements for some of the actors are a downgrade and I think its a joke the way in which Crunchyroll handled the dub situation. Also the ending to me was very unsatisfying and quite random.

Despite my issues with this season, there is still great animation, likeable characters, funny moments and some level of entertainment here. I was just very underwhelmed mainly due to the lack of action and lack of a real plot and especially after how great season 2 was. The fact that this season is rated so highly on MyAnimeList is crazy to me.

What a complete mess.

The Devil Is A Part Timer was the first anime I ever watched back in 2014, I knew very little about anime but saw various people talking about it on YouTube and Twitter at the time and thought I would try to get into it. The first season was great, with an interesting premise, likeable characters, solid humour and a certain charm that makes it stand out in my memory when I looked back on previous anime I have watched.

Sadly most of the charm has been sucked out with this 2nd season, not only has this season seen a significant change ... in visuals (which in my opinion are a downgrade) but the actual animation itself and the way in which scenes are choregraphed kinda suck and SCREAM low budget. The characters act a little different from what I remember and the plot itself in this season is nonsensical, shoving mythical lore down your throat that you don't care about and focusing a lot on the fantasy elements of the world the characters left behind at the very start of the first season.

More than ever this anime feels like a slice of life but not in a good way, in the first season you see the characters trying to adjust to their new life alongside somewhat of a plot but in this season every episode feels so disjointed and meaningless with the addition of a new main character that I personally don't care for. There are still some humorous moments which I appreciated but unfortunately the plot and writing sucks to the point where I just couldn't care about what was happening. Also the voice acting for the dub isn't great, the sub seems to be a lot better.

I will say though that I liked the music in this season, particularly the intro which SLAPS. However a decent OST ain't gonna make a show worth watching. Overall I'm really disappointed and won't be watching the already announced season 3 which I suspect is gonna suffer hard from low viewership numbers thanks to the low quality of this season.

Writing this review after just finishing the 2nd season of Mob Psycho, coincidentally on the same day that season 3 comes out. My thoughts on the first season were that it was a solid beginning but this season in particular REALLY resonated with me. It really feels like they cranked it up a notch, further developing the characters, making the scale of fights bigger and more intense and there are some incredibly memorable moments both happy and sad.

As someone that isn't the biggest fan of Shounen I think they have done a great job, the characters are very likeable and interesting, the dub is ... excellent, the music works and its simply entertaining from start to finish with no filler. The only criticism I might have would be that the pacing could be a little better particular during the 2nd half which felt a little rushed. All in all this was an amazing season and this show has the potential to be my favourite anime to date.
