First of all, I must say I loved Re:Zero, 4 years waiting for this sequel and knowing what's coming to this arc made my expectation so damn high.
Ironically, I realized I was lying myself all the time that "season 2 is always worse than season 1" curse is not gonna happen with my beloved story, WF is a decent studio and they love this project. But no, they not only completed destroying my hope, they even made me hating the source material. Another bad thing is Re:Zero fans, well, despite the fact that I was a fan, I believe I've never been a liar
...
which you always see some of them are.
OK, let's talk about what is bad about this season.
Story: 5/10
Really, the source material is my favorite part of the story so far. I can rate it a 9/10 (a 8+1 point from a fanboy). I've always imagined how it's going to be in animated form. Something like directing this arc myself in my head. But reality is harsh. The studio has changed here and there, rushed content to make cliffhangers, skipped things which made some big consequences are weak characters development, anticlimactic, wasting potential impact. Further, rushing things made people confused which is a bad choice. You guys maybe has seen many fans saying "they didn't skip any major content, this adaptation is so faithful...etc..." Don't ever be so easy in believing it. Read the novel then compare it, feel it on your own.
Art: 2/10
Yeah, many fans said that Covid-19 is the main villain, they changed the artstyle because of good thing, do it on purpose...etc... They are all liars, they said what they believed, what they're trying to lie themself all the time or making excuse.
I'm not exaggerating here. You know, the episode where the staffs worked from home is episode 6 but you can see the lacking-lazy in animation, stiff&dull facial expressions, no face characters, bad camera angle choice right in the first episode which always has the highest production value and is affected by bad schedule in the least. The easiest way to realize this is watching season 1's episode 1 with season 2's ep 1 at the same time.
Re:Zero season 1 was a big BOOM, got so much money for its owner then it got this kind of treatment, a downgrade compared to its prequel 4 years ago Lovely.
The ears, yeah, characters ears is what I didn't careless but it really bothers me after so many ugly faces they made for the main character.
Sound: 3/10
Well, I liked the ending. The OP impressed me at first because its visuals but now I think it's a fine OP. Soundtrack is nowhere near as good as the first season's. I can't recall anything good. A big let down. And why did I just put a 3? Because of how it is used. I mean, sound directing, their damn poor choice. They almost used the ED for every emotional scenes. They tried to hide their lacking of budget for this part.
Character: 4/10
God, Subaru and Emilia are my favorite characters from the story. I really love their personality. I can deal any Subaru's scream while reading the novel. Honestly, I did imagine how the VAs will do it justice even those hard parts. Then again, the VAs disappointed me with their cringey-voice. Kobayashi and Takahashi really can not surpass what they did in season 1. They tried but they can't, simple as that.
Kobayashi tried to use his pathetic voice everywhere, everytime and they are all the same, a familiar rhythm. He overused it.
About Takahashi, aside from her lacking screen-time, she really did not do a good job in this season.
Ram, Garf, Beatrice and Otto are affected by a rushed adaptation. Literally, no character development. Many touching scenes in the novel are ruined in the anime.
Enjoyment: 1/10 because I hate this adaptation.
Overall: 2/10
Nice try, wanting to make more money from the fans and I believe it will be successful because the fans can take anything from what they're feeded. They are pious sheep. I think the fans really love the studio.
