BRUUUUUUUUUH,
just read the manga it is sooo good.
This is a review from someone who has read the manga and enjoyed it way too much. I don't base my opinion on the anime itself but more on how it is adapted, therefore if you haven't read the manga you shouldn't take my review extremely seriously. But still, I don't recommend this to anyone. This is also my first review, if it looks janky I am sorry.
First of all, they have added way too many unnecessary reactions in the anime compared to the manga, which makes it feel sooooo slow. And second, I expect some sort
...
of animations in an anime. Someone said it looked like a powerpoint presentation, and that is the best way to describe this entire show.
If you read Record of Ragnarok, don't watch the adaptation you will 100% be disappointed. If you haven't read the manga, I also suggest not watching Record of Ragnarok, in the time the first of the 3 fights is done in the anime you will be done with the 4th fight in the manga. (The manga is currently in the middle of the 6th fight) I gave the manga a 10/10 btw, that shit slapped so hard. The dumb things become less noticeable for example the horse couching blood when Bu Lu clamps it with its feet. When I watched that I immediately went back to the manga to check if it was also there. And it was.
I don't understand why they only took the moves that were present in the manga, it's in that respect a carbon copy. Nothing has been added to make it flow smoothly for the anime adaptation, which (again) makes the show feel incredibly slow.
Every time when someone moves the background disappears and is replaced for that dumb colour scheme to make it more intense I suppose? (I don't know the correct definition of this.) This is something which I find particularly annoying when watching an anime.
The constant flashbacks that explain the fighters' backstory works in a manga. But in an anime it quickly becomes annoying, personally for me it just takes less time reading it and thus fits quite nicely while the fight is happening compared with the narration of the backstory. They should have realised that it ruins the pacing
Me Being disappointed with this adaptation is a massive understatement, I hate it and wished that a more qualified studio who has more experience making fast-paced fighting animations took this manga under his hood. Or rather just leave this manga alone. I have watched Arslan Senki, which is made by the same studio, and the same problems I had with that anime were present in Record of Ragnarok. The cheap ass CGI being one of them.
I haven't completed the third fight yet of writing this review, but I don't expect it to differ too much from the first 2.
The concept of the story is in my eyes 10/10 but this adaptation is just so bad 3/10, only because I really enjoyed the manga. If I didn't know the manga this I would have dropped the show after the first fight.
