Although the setting and story are very different, they're similar in the way they're written: - Both series are very long and slow paced because of the amount of details they go into regarding the characters' actions and psychology. - Both protagonists, Ippo and Kaiji, remain underdogs despite getting stronger. - Both series are manly and have almost no fanservice. - Both have incomplete but faithful anime adaptations made by Madhouse, so you can watch those and then pick the manga afterwards to help with the overwhelming number of chapters.

Both give the same feeling about a magical adventure, they have very similar art styles and characters. Both are cute and fun, if you liked one of them you'll definitely like the other.

Although they're not very similar but both are fantasy anime, Rokka no Yuusha is more on the mystery side, while Tales of the Abyss is more on adventure. One thing though is very similar it can't be a coincidence is the protagonists of both shows, Adlet from RnY looks the same as Luke from TotA, they also both are arrogant (or have high self-confidence), and both develop their characters and relationships with their allies through the show.
