//No Spoiler Review//
Watching Goblin Slayer is a chore. A chore that you should only do to clean up your watch list or if your in the mood for mindless action.
After watching Goblin Slayer for a second time in preparation for the release of S2 I can confidently say that the anime is Just Okay. The first episode had convinced me it was going to be a dark fantasy anime where you could expect anything to happen at a moments notice. However it was quickly watered down into a generic Fantasy with only a few dark moments sprinkled in showing you what could have been.
Pros:
...
The anime does a good job at making the party feel like they work together like an actual team of adventurers, with each character being defined by their role and playing that part to the end. Rather than them simply going to the same place well simultaneously fighting alone like what is so common in the generic fantasies that are released these days.
The obligatory "epic Goblin Slayer moment" of every arc is well done from the art to the music and was easily one of the best things about the show.
Cons:
There is practically no character development. From the beginning of episode 1 to the end of episode 12 Goblin Slayer is the same husk of a character that seems like nothing more then a suit of armor that somehow pushes the story along well every character that seems interesting inevitably flocks to him because he is "Actually a good guy and not a weirdo".
When the Goblin Slayer goes to hunt Goblins, his party is very adamant about killing the goblins humanely. Of course they are completely fine with generic methods (Swords/Bows/Magic/Etc) but for some reason any unique or interesting strategy the Goblin Slayer uses is always followed up by his party with "Your not allowed to do that anymore its overkill". Which I am convinced is half the reason any of the fights even come close in the first place...
There is no plot. Almost the entire show consists of >Where are goblins >Im going to go kill those goblins >I killed goblins >Repeat. Which at first is entertaining quickly starts feeling like you've already watched the episode before.
So if you want to watch some decent rather mindless action this show's not a bad one to knock off your list as there is a S2 which could potentially do more with the show. But if your looking to get invested into the characters, world and story, I wouldn't waste my time.
