Texhnolyze is without a doubt the most unique and thought provoking anime I've ever experienced. Typically I don't review anime I watch but this case is special as if I were to recommend this to my friends I would really have no idea what to say about it so I'm gonna do my best here because this is a show that I feel deserves more attention.
Texhnolyze was created by the same team behind Serial Experiments Lain and a lot of elements from it are present here as well. It is very much a psychological, head spinning experience just like Lain however, what's interesting about
...
Texhnolyze is how it presents its narrative and builds its world. The story of Texhnolyze is set within the underground city of Lux. A bleak, dystopian city littered with poverty and gang warfare in which many people have been altered through a process known as Technolyzation enabling them to make use of robotic limbs for either survival or enhancing their physical attributes. The story follows a man named Ichise as he struggles to find his place within Lux under a very unfortunate circumstance. You may be inclined to drop Texhnolyze upon beginning it and honestly I wouldn't blame you for it. The beginning of the anime is incredibly slow and gives you very little to go off... frustratingly little to go off. It's very different to the typical anime format but despite a slow start Texhnolyze has become one of my favourite animes because of what that slow start became and I urge anyone willing to give it a try to stick with it as it certainly didn't disappoint me.
What I loved most about Texhnolyze were the emotions it envoked upon the me. Throughout the entirety of the experience I was constantly questioning things, and as more and more was revealed to me I found myself mesmerised and quite frankly blown away by how the plot unfolded. Many plot revelations and beautifully drawn scenes sent shivers down my spine. I've never seen anything quite like it. It isn't simply the characters that are interesting but the actual circumstance of the world and the meaning behind it's current state left for you to discover that I found infactuating. If you're a fan of anime with a strong sense of the unkown such as Attack on Titan, I'd highly recommend Texhnolyze as it certainly ticks that box. Texhnolyze is a very confusing anime that makes you question many things. When I first began watching it I thought it would be one of the worst anime I'd watch but upon finishing it I was both fulfilled yet empty, not entirely sure what to think but also very moved by what I had just witnessed. And for that reason I still have no idea what to rate it so I've kind of put it in a nuetral position. It isn't about how good or bad the anime is but about it's effect on the viewer. As an anime I certainly found faults within it but the impact it had on me is similar to that only a select few anime have managed to achieve. Though it may not be for everyone I'd highly recommend Texhnolyze as it's a breath of fresh air from traditional anime, and is an experience I feel many people would be glad to have. I highly recommend it.
