They really need to stop trying to animate Junji Ito's work. Nothing will ever match his art style and power of page turners. I loved Uzumaki as a manga, and thought it was well done within pacing, tension, and overall story telling. I've heard rumours of each studio's decline as the episodes go on which is disappointing because I really enjoyed the first episode. This anime suffers from pacing issues, as well as a quick decline in animation style that really affects anyone's viewing experience. It's a great story with in-depth characters and amazing visuals thanks to Junji Ito's style and story-telling.
My recommendation? Just
...
read that manga.

This whole season feels like set-up for the other seasons, up until the last minutes of the final transformation from Kankei. It has good visuals and starts with good character building. Storyline gets a little messy, and uninteresting but it sets up well for upcoming seasons. The OP will always be iconic, and well performed. I'm unsure of how the other seasons par up to this one, but like I said it does just feel like a introduction to the universe, even though it runs for 12 full-length episodes. Doesn't give viewers anything to hold onto. It feels incomplete but also doesn't compel me to
...
seek out the other seasons, though I have heard that the manga is better received than the anime adaption.

I really liked this anime, even though the ending left me a little disappointed in the romance department, it had a satisficing closure for the groups friendship. The characters, most of them we're pretty fleshed out, except for Kominato and Yuuri.
Kou, trying to get over the hardships of losing his mother and isolation.
Futaba, reconnecting with a middle school crush, growing as a person and understanding her worth.
Murao, where some might disagree about her having a fleshed out character, I stand with it. She struggles with a crush on her teacher, Tanaka-sensei. Obviously their love would be forbidden, an unrequited love. She had
...
isolated herself, much like Kou never letting any in. Cold and blunt with others, it isn't a huge change she goes throughout the anime, but if you look closely you can see her warm up to her new group of friends.
I really liked the story, it did take a little bit to kick off for me. As at the start it did feel a bit repetitive with Futaba asking for the old Kou back, and Kou, being cold and distant saying that, the old Kou, that old version of him is gone after what he's had to experience, unknown to Futaba. After it is revealed what has happened, how his mothers passing has affected him, I think it really starts to work all together. Futaba giving him support, friendship and a caring person, as cold and distant as he might try to be. The sideline with Yuuri falling for Kou was interesting and added a good conflict for Futaba, as Yuuri was one of her first true friends and she doesn't want to betray or hurt her, but she also is in love with Kou. It was a very needed sideline to keep the story interesting, and I think it was worked smoothly into the story, and didn't feel forced at all.
The art style was appealing to the eye, a nice contrast of color, and contrast in character design. Very pretty scenes all throughout the anime.
I think all the supporting characters adding something to the story that made it stronger. Yuuri's backstory of being bullied and shunned because she is cute and gets attention from boys more often. Tanaka-sensei's battle with feeling remorse for not being their for Kou during their mother's illness.
This anime has an amazing message, and so many perfect quotable lines about life and staying strong. Showing that isolation doesn't mean you want to be isolated from others. That sometimes we need people to break down the walls we built around ourselves. To forgive ourselves after a traumatic experience has happened. Though the anime didn't end of with a confession or a relationship, I don't feel like it hurt the ending. I don't think it hurt the story to leave Kou and Futaba's relationship as friends; even knowing their romantic feelings for each other. Every rom-com, slice of life doesn't need to end with a relationship, a friendship might even be better than expected.

This is a slice of life, following the quiet, anti-social Ao Horie who only focuses on studying and having a hatred for men due to their horny nature. Though when a popular and friendly Takumi Kajimi takes a interest in her, her world gets thrown for a loop!
This is a very pure and wholesome anime, apart from the man child of a dad. I really enjoyed this, because as it does have lewd parts, fan service and a overall theme of sex and losing your virginity; there's a wholesomeness that these two have never really experienced love from another.
I had a love, hate
...
relationship with Ao, I can understand how she's grown to hate men, as she's only seen them in a sexual light from her father. But the acts when she would reject Takumi, him being a good guy and accepting it, and then getting upset when he stayed away from her like she asked him to do. It's the equivalent of a girl saying she's down to eat anywhere, you take her somewhere and she gets upset that you didn't pick a different place. But other than that, I found her innocence and somewhat overthinking entertaining to watch.
Takumi has to be my favourite character in this anime, hands down. He's a respectful guy, even though he's fallen for Ao, and keeps getting rejected and a million mixed signals from her. He never gets upset at her for not fully understanding her feelings, or wanting to prioritize studying to get into a good university over having a relationship. I love being able to see him get all shy and flustered when with Ao, or talking with friends about how inexperienced he really is, going against the normal stereotype for him.
Overall, I found this anime really funny, wholesome and enjoyable. Apart from the father, who I could care less of his character, as I felt the only times I could bare to see him on screen is when he was actually talking seriously and not in his child-whining voice. I would give this a 8/10 just because I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The 12 minute episodes helped keep my attention, and they never dragged any scenes on for too long, everything really did seem believable, and just a nice, calming slice of life romance!

I feel like this is one of those animes where you need to have a interest in said topic, to enjoy the show. I was able to make it through the first episode, because I heard such praise for this show for being unique, but that wasn't the case for me. Its a slice of life of the cells inside the body. You have the generic energetic, polite but clumsy and lost female mc, and the stoic, quiet, fighter, kind giant male mc. They use every chance they get to over explain some scientific facts about cells or bacteria; I felt like I was watching
...
a informational video for my science class. It isn't really that unique if you think about it, yes it's a cool concept to have the cells in our body personified, but it's the same as every generic slice of life anime. Nothing eye catching, unless you're into science.
