The dynamics between the characters are similar. They're both humorous, while Raise does become a bit darker as it focuses on gangs. They both are school stories, although Horimiya definitely focuses on school aspects more. Horimiya and Raise wa Tanin ga Ii have masochistic characters; Kirishima in Raise and Hori in Horimiya. The female leads in both manga aren't bland characters, and tend to have atypical characteristics; Yoshino from Raise isn't ridiculously strong, but can defend herself, and Hori from Horimiya becomes a different person when she's at home. The male leads also aren't typical, and become polar opposites of how they seem at first.

Hinamatsuri also focuses more on a particular Yakuza group, while Raise wa Tanin ga Ii focuses on the dynamics between Yakuza groups. Lastly, Hinamatsuri has no romance, whereas Raise was Tanin ga Ii is about an arranged engagement between the two grandchildren of Yakuza gangs.
