I'm speechless. Just finished reading it. The story direction is way different than in the anime. To all the people that label stories like this as just pdf files or whatever, a honest f you. This is a treasure chest if you get past those elements that are nothing more than coping mechanisms for broken people.

The story had dark moments, plot-twists, suspense moments and sad moments. Made me cry many times and cheer for the characters other times. That ending was near perfection and I give it overall a 10/10. Rarely do I find stories nowadays that tackle the subject of what it is ... to be a human and why do we exist in this world to the point that it makes me rethink my life and cry. Miss author, great job!

If you don't know if you should watch this, I'll tell you the truth about this show. Or better said, these types of shows, as this isn't the only one.

Kodomo no Jikan is part of the types of shows I like to call "with a mask", or "plot gatekeepers". They start with a few episodes in which they throw controversial or taboo things in your face. They give you this false image, and if you crack, you stop watching and start complaining about a plot you don't even fully know.

After the ... "tourists" are gone, the show changes course and hits you with the real story which tries to be as heartbreaking and emotional as possible. The controversial things it threw in your face in the first episodes are just the end result. A coping mechanism characters cling to, to save them from their broken life.

Watch this show if you like this type of plot. If you dislike controversy or taboo, don't force yourself to watch it, it's not for you. Even if you finish it, you wouldn't get the story, as you have different life values incompatible with what the story tries to tell you.

All I want to say is that I waited for the events of this movie to happen ever since I saw episode 9 from the first season.

Everything was possible, until that episode 9. What happened in that episode destroyed my favorite couple and made me make 3 predictions, using all the clues I had so far.

All 3 predictions came true in this movie. One of the predictions though didn't actually happen, it was a joke the author pulled at the end, but I'm glad he know how his audience would think and made that segment.

That being said, screw this author in particular ... for hating the childhood friend trope. Like god damn man, he cracked down hard on the trope for the entire story. Like what anime hurt you that you had to take revenge in your story on the trope so much.

Good movie, delivers on the buildup made in season 1 and 2, but the outcome might make people mad. I was mad only at ep 9 because I knew at that point that it was over and I predicted for myself how it was going to end. And it pretty much ended that way. But for people that didn't predict it, well.... you might be in for a surprise :))

Let me say this to get it out of the way.

This anime is a self reference and commentary on the otaku culture. If you saw shows like this before, you know what to expect. A guy wants to make a game but the game plot is actually what happens in the anime regarding the relationships between characters.

Now that I got that out of the way, let me rant a bit.

I absolutely hate (in a loving way) what they did with the "childhood friend" stereotype. It was my favorite character to compete in the "win the MC" race but they absolutely destroyed her, and ... then introduced a new character that's even more of a "childhood friend" and started trash talking the original.

Does this author hate childhood friends or something? I don't even want to watch season 2 because of this, why keep that character in the story at all now, she has 0 chance left. It's like beating a dead horse. The author has a big L for doing this but whatever.

I restructured the narrative for myself and found other heroine to cheer for, but I would really wish the childhood friend gets isekaid or something. Literally why even keep her anymore. It's over... shit (or evil) writing.

Yep, the plot doesn't go anywhere...

The story structure focuses on expanding the universe. Sometimes with some potential character development, sometimes with offtopic slice of life comedy. My question is why don't they integrate these stories as arcs that happen while Anya is trying to get Stellas so we can move the plot and get stories focused on the actual thing we're all here for.

I like expanding the universe, but not when we're completely abandoning the actual story. This feels like someone told the author to just make up content but keep the story where it is ... and not progress it. You can skip this entire season and you'll lose nothing regarding how the Operation Strix is going. 0 progress made.

It's absolutely skippable. You can consider it filler if you want. More Spy Family slice of life and that's about it. It's a self contained story that doesn't really change, add or remove anything from the main plot. They just wanted to make something to cash in more on the 'story".

Good points:
- Anya's faces were the highlight of the movie for me. Very funny, cute and derpy
- Some action scenes were decent (just don't expect Demon Slayer quality)

Bad points:
- It's filler, nothing important happens for the story
...
If you really just want more slice of life with Anya, watch it.

If you just want to keep up with the main story, movie is completely skippable.

Waited until it was over and people stopped hyping it up so I can judge it as objectively as I can for myself, but even so, my expectations were huge because of what people said about it.

For me, this anime is the embodiment of true mid, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Most anime do great things and bad things, which results in an average between 2 extremes when it comes to the score. But not Frieren. This show minimizes both extremes.

Did it do bad things? No. Very minor nitpicky things only which can be ignored.
Did it do great things like ... ppl hyped it up? Absolutely not.
Was the story lacking in relevant detail or have asspulls? No, just very minor things which could well be cut content from the manga
Did the story have mind-bending plot-twists or something that no other anime has done before? No.

Overall it's a solid slice of life story set in a fantasy world, based on the passage of time with some comedy and fights sprinkled here and there.

If this was a no-name show in which I would've gone in blind, then I would probably rate it higher, but people put it up there with the most legendary anime I ever saw like FMA, Steins;Gate, Monster, Madoka, Oshi no Ko and other 20 titles. The fact that it didn't live up to the hype is a huge disappointment, so I can only say that she show is good, but nothing extraordinary like ppl claim.

So, do you want a chill slice of life fantasy based story about the passage of time? Go for it.
Is it as good as other titles ppl compare it to? Absolutely not.

After S2 where I barely understood anything, as it had LN adaptation problems (from my understanding at least), S3 was better adapted from what I felt, but still felt really fast, leaving details outside the story and things just "happen" without much of a proper set-up beforehand.

It also doesn't help that it felt more like a filler season, where nothing major happens in term of "end game" plot, we're just running around trying to tick tasks off our lists of "to do".

What I really enjoyed was the animation and that opening. Really big improvement and it hyped me up for it. That alone ... deserves a 9, but sadly if I mix the story in, everything goes down to a 7.5, and I gotta round it down because I'm tired of shows with bad plot/adaptation that just use animation to try and save everything.

This is clearly an anime for light novel readers and I bet they're really enjoying it. For anime-only watchers, eh.... I enjoy it with my brain off. But if I try to think about the plot or try to guess things, everything falls apart.

Who would I recommend this anime too, or who was this anime made for, or who can get the most out of watching this anime?

Ok, here's the picture. Imagine you're between 25-35y old. You got a job, some money, but there's always the thought in the back of your head that one day you may lose your job, end up alone with no money.

This anime is like a gentle hug, that tells you it's ok if you end up poor, because look at these sisters. They live very frugal and try to make the best out of their condition. As long as they ... have each other, their love can conquer any hardship.

Yes, sometimes they don't understand each other, sometimes they interpret their feelings or situations the wrong way, but in the end, they only have each other, and all other problems in the world don't matter, as long as they can be together and happy.

This is one of those anime where I wish my own life was more humble and that I had a pure little sister that can rely on me and that I can rely on. In a world where every hour of my day revolves around clients, how to increase profit, how to please my bosses, how to deliver better results, this anime tells me that you know what? All of the "problems" in my life are actually not problems. These sisters, poor as they are, are enjoying life way more than I am which is a nice contradiction. Gaining money won't make you happy. These girls experience true happiness every day

At least that's my take on this anime. Also read the manga. Feels unfinished but oh well, overall it's a really nice life story.

If you're watching this in 2024 or even future years, I want to congratulate you for giving it at least a chance. It's an old, forgotten anime, that I never heard about. Only discovered it after casually browsing titles.

The movie is overall "good", I give it 8 for 2 reasons, each reason being 1 point minus.

1. The movie should've aired before S3. This is basically the story that lacks in S3 that explains the status quo of the season.
2. The movie didn't really bring anything new in advancing the major plotline. It's just ol' Sybil doing Sybil shit again, and ppl around it wondering if it's a good or bad thing. This is the formula used too often after season 1, and it's getting kinda predictable.

Other than these 2 things, the movie is alright, loved how it had so many ... characters in it from other seasons too, and some specific character interactions that we didn't get in a long time. The backgrounds are gorgeous.
