Both series employ witty and gag-filled humor, filled with cultural and obscure media references. Both are slice-of-life, taking different approaches to what's ultimately the same genre. Both are self-aware and break the fourth wall throughout. Neither got officially licensed in the US, with fandubs filling in for the lack of any official dub. Both have a talking cat.
