Similarities: - Relying heavily on vague symbolism and aesthetics to deliver ttheir narratives. - Surreal visuals and gloomy atmosphere. - Exploring serious and dark themes as well as groundbreaking and unique concepts - They will wrap your head around leading to confusion, they question you rather than answer. They would challenge any finest anime thinkers. - Beautiful art. (Especially background art and character design). - Profound messages about different topics and the nature of humanity. If you love SEL then you might love Texhnolyze since they are both written by the same guy. They both have highly complicated, dark stories with unique visuals. Both are very slow and dry, share the same phenomenal, unsettling, suffocating atmosphere and most importantly they both require patience. I would say SEL is way better in terms of visuals and its powerful message, Texhnolyze is way better in terms of art and animation quality because it is handled by Madhouse - the most liked anime studio out there. They are both hidden gems in the anime world. Give them a go if you want to go out of your comfort zone.
