This series is very much about death and life, about the decisions we make and their consequences, about how life can end abruptly, and we can regret several decisions later.
The series is comedic at times, but overall I felt quite tragic, at the end of the day, except for a few, each one of the characters introduced is dead and will inevitably end up either being reborn or lost forever in the void.
Honestly, I think the quality depends a lot on the chapter, since each chapter or couple of chapters is usually about the same couple of people, but we still have the story of

Anyone who enjoys mind and strategy games will enjoy the anime. The characters are quite good, and Light's evolution as the story progresses is quite good.
However, I would like to highlight a couple of parts that I find heavy, first, the part where Light loses his memory, I find it one of the most boring and heavy parts of the anime. And more importantly, the entire final arc, after the death of L the series drops a lot in quality and interest, Near and Mello are pretty boring and clearly inferior to L in everything. Basically, for anyone who is interested in romance and maybe even a little sci-fi and specifically video game making, this manga can be fun while it lasts. It does have a few issues though, first, it feels like a lot of times it doesn't go deep enough into certain aspects and most importantly to me, the ending.
This manga ends VERY abruptly, telling you that if you want to continue the story go read the light novel, which is exactly why I can't recommend it. If you want to see this story, which I genuinely think has a lot of potential, and some good characters, ... |
