I'm late to the party, but I've finally watched SAO in 2025

So what can I say ? Visually it's very pretty, but that's about it.

As for the script, the first two episodes announced a series with a lot of potential, but then the pace went completely off the rails, with random time skips and dozens of floors skipped in the space of a single episode without the slightest explanation. A large proportion of the episodes feel like fillers, since they don't advance the main plot and focus on totally useless secondary quests...

As for Kirito's character and the others in general, they're empty and uninteresting, and ... the romance with Asuna and everything that revolves around it is cringe-worthy and ill-conceived.

What's more, there's almost no feedback on what happens during the 2 years in the real world. And the explanations once you're out of the game are anecdotal

Finally, the antagonists are clichéd as hell, with completely ridiculous motivations. And I'm not even going to mention the second part with the world of the elves

All in all, this is still an mmo anime where the author has probably never played a video game in his life

I think I'd have enjoyed it if I'd watched it back then, but it's impossible to take this series seriously today.

It really was a wonderful discovery !

The hip pop/lofi soundtrack by Nujabes is a delight for the ears and the choreographed katana fights by our merry men Mugen and Jin are breathtaking.

I enjoyed accompanying this trio on their chaotic journey to find the samurai who smells like sunflowers (I wonder if it smells good or stinks XD) even if there were a few rather underwhelming and forgettable episodes, the high points were grand enough to make the whole thing exceptional.

In short, great Watanabe with a style and atmosphere unique to the anime of the time, which unfortunately can't be found today, even if I have ... to admit that I prefer Cowboy Bepop.

So it's just basically a promotional anime for the nipponbashi district in Osaka, we follow Neon an anime girl mascot of this place who introduce the location to us while dealing with her sister's shenanigans.

The story is just about promoting the district and doing commercials for a pc. And even with just that they fail to do it good, it would have been so much better if instead of 6 short episodes that present Nipponbashi in a very shallow way with things anyone could find by looking the wikipedia page, they made a long episode of ... like 30min with maybe more real footage where we would have the girls doing interviews of people working and living there.

Now the animation... It's absolutely awful, it's very static and some shots seems to have been done in Microsoft paint. The art does improve a little throughout the episodes but the budget was probably too low to produce something decent.

To conclude just don't waste your time like I did and don't watch this anime, especially if you don't plan to go in Nipponbashi.

Well, well, well... Where to start...

Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san abbreviated Roshidere is one of the worst animes I have ever seen (and god knows how much shit I watched...)

To begin let's talk about the concept which was supposed to make the anime "original" and "unique" : it doesn't add anything to the story, and as a bilingual myself it's just completly stupid and illogical. I really think it was added just to fulfill a weird fetish or something...

Speaking of kinks the anime is full of weird fanservice that will please professional gooners and porn addict such as feet lovers or incest ... fans who like to squint at their little sister so if it makes you uncomfortable just run away for your own good.

The plot now, it's just a very boring romcom with a very boring MC and empty characters. The story focus around a kind of dull political war to lead the student council with some romance. It's so lame and slow paced that I had to watch some episodes in x 3 speed.

Artstyle is fortunaly fine because it's the only thing to save from this show.

In short, Roshidere is a very bad and overrated anime which was highlighted by memes and weirdos.

I'll be pretty quick with this one by just summing up its pros (mainly) and cons :

I spent a really good time in front of this flick and recommend everyone to give it a try someday !

"Even though Haibane Renmei is about non human characters it remains deeply and lovingly sunk in humanity"

In Haibane Renmei we discover through the eyes of a "Newborn" the world where "Haibanes" a mysterious angel like kind evolves between their ned named "Old Home" and a town inhabited by humans where the angels work to fullfill their life and pay their moral debt to the kindess and the tolerance they receive despite their differences.

Moreover, the whole land is surrounded by strange and huge walls whose access is totally forbidden for obscure reasons, those walls belong to the numerous mysteries the series has to offer and ... that participate to its peaceable and bizarre mood : "what's beyond these walls ?" "what exactly are the haibanes ?" and plenty of other questions are smartly answered by the show in a subtil and metaphoric way.

Additionally the series' great force resides in its characters who are really endearing and sweet despite the incertitudes they are facing due to the strange phenomenons occuring to their species. In spite of its apparent sweetness, the story broaches a lot of important themes such as : grief, knowing of oneself, salvation, death and human relations in general.

In conclusion Haibane Ranmei is a beautiful slice of life with wondrous artstyles and beautiful environments that feels very nostalgic, the soundtrack is probably one of the best ever made in the whole japanese animation industry and perfectly corresponds to the atmosphere depicted by the series. Not to mention both the opening and the ending which are absolutely awesome...

These lyrics sum up this series very well.

In a desvasted world destroyed by human's war lust we follow the adventures of Chito and Yuuri two young girls wandering alone in a empty city divided into several floors trying to reach the top of it. More than a real objective the two friends with contrasted personnalities keep moving on their little warlike vehicule living innocently day by day in quest of food and people to talk with.

The fundamental of the series is the voyage rather than the destination, ... in a world full of wasteland the two friends get closer despite their different temperaments to fill the loneliness. The anime is a real piece of art with beautiful landscapes accompagnied by great and peaceful musics that make the whole thing really "feel good", we get to truly appreciate discovering those mysterical lands with the girls while getting to know more their characters through the existential questions brung by yuu's insatiable hunger. It's definitly a must watch if you're sensible to calm and cute stories with a great deptness, the series subtily denounces the war's horror through child's innocence without being corny or moralist. Action's fan might be disapointed though, the anime's essence is really about contemplation.
