By the creator behind the 2015 mega hit One Punch Man and animated by the studio that brought us Full Metal Alchemist, we get one of the most decent anime to come out of summer 2016 which is Mob Psycho 100. This was pretty much in all honesty one of the shows I was most excited about before season started. I was at one point going to read the manga but decided to leave greatness for when the actual show came out and I am glad I did as Mob Psycho is one of those shows that should have surprises waiting for the viewer.
Mob
...
Psycho tries to take what made One Punch Man good and re skin it for something different to the superhero genre. The Re Skin gives us instead of a guy with ultimate strength we get someone with a strong capabilities for psychic powers in a world where psychics exist. The story follows a character nicknamed Mob who is likely the most powerful Psychic in the world by the looks of things and is capable of exorcizing evil spirits with ease.
The first half of MP100 introduces us to the life of Shigeo Kageyama (Mob) who was raised holding very powerful psychic abilities that made him different to the normal kids. In the present he works with Reigen Arataka who runs a business for exorcizing evil spirits. Reigen acts as Mobs master despite having no Psychic abilities while Mob still goes to school. In the first half of the show we see Mob try to develop his own character without the use of psychic powers by only using them to in his exorcism jobs and not in school as he wants to be good at something normal.
After a couple of episodes we get to learn the true nature of Mob and his goals in life which leads us into the second half where there is an actual plot. The actual plot involves Mobs encounters with other Psychics. I won't go into too much detail but it can be quite an interesting thing to watch. The whole show like one punch man is an overpowered character try to solve ordinary problems while handling the task of being more than human.
In terms of characters like One Punch man, MP100 has a colourful cast of characters that provide a sense of seriousness and humour. Mob is character that faces a dilemma of lowing his strengths for a chance at normality. Throughout the show he is conflicted by this and it shows multiple times where Mob is at his most stressed. He is an interesting character at the times he does show emotion towards other characters which makes it so he is not only a emotionless slate. The other Character that plays centre stage Is Reigan Arataka who is in truth a Con Artist. When you hear he is a Con artist you would expect a character that is a scumbag which is kind of right.
The thing about Reigan is that fans are conflicted about liking his Character at first. As the show moves forward Reigan can turn into a true meme lord and is extremely supportive of Mob which is where people get to like him. In some episodes you could even say he is the best bro in the show. Another Major Character in the Show is Mobs brother Ritsu who is basically the perfect brother/student in terms of personality. Despite being perfect this character is also conflicted and it plays into the main story later on but overall he is likable. The last character of interest is and evil spirit called dimple whose role is just to be a punching bag for a number of really funny jokes played on his character.
Other characters include students among those the muscle club who are basically best bro squad are considering how they treat Mob. The other characters are general clowns Reigan trolls and the psychics that are either good or bad. Like One Punch Man all the characters are very colourful and are made victim for decent humour.
The Art in MP100 is rather unique for as it looks a lot like a webcomic being animated. The whole style is similar to Concrete Revolution which is another one of Bones shows. The whole thing looks in a way hand drawn. The best thing to come out of this very style is the interesting visuals and effort shown to be put in the fight scenes. The visuals looked really cool at times especially in moments where Mob goes all out with his powers. Some of the greater fights remind me of the subterranean fight in one punch man.
Overall I got to like this art style which not many shows would dare attempt in the fear of poor results. We do not get poor results here we just get the great animation bones are known to produce with their studio. The character designs are good and are distinguishing, what I mean by that is the likes of student characters who wear uniforms stand out amongst each other while are central characters can standout themselves despite their normal appearances they carry where they were pretty average clothing.
The music is pretty suitable for this series, it’s not memorable as the OST for one Punch Man but the OST used during the show is mainly used to fill an atmosphere. I really liked the opening and ending for the show both songs 99 and Refrain Boy are great choices. The sequences they are used in especially Refrain Boy are really great. I have to say the ending using Refrain Boy is really beautiful and would love to see more ending sequences like that. In terms of voice acting I watched in subs. I have to appreciate the emotion given off in the voice of some characters especially Reigan who is funny to listen to even if I can’t fully understand Japenese tongue.
I really loved this show and it was likely my go to Anime of Summer 2016. I hope there is a season two in the future as I would like to see this show have an eventual conclusion.

Time for a positive review of re…… (dark hand grabs heart) ……… time for a ……(hand getting tighter around heart). Ok I need one minute ………….……..(performs exorcism on computer so Mal friends don’t get angry and destroy heart)……... Now before my heart gets torn I will drink and give my thoughts on Re: Zero an anime that has become one of the highlights the community praise for the last six months. Brought to you by the studio White Fox that gave us anime like “Steins Gate” and “Akame Ga Kill”, Zero is a combination of “Stein Gates” well renowned time travel scenario and “Akame Ga
...
Kill’s” horrible violence times two.
I liked the show honestly as there was not much to hate about it on my end. I have always been into the concept of time travel and I am also a bit of a sadist and love to see characters suffer, I guess that is what happens when all you watched before anime is “Doctor Who”, “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones”. The story with Re: Zero is that I just decided to binge watch the whole show in around three days on a free weekend up to the last episode. To be honest I feel kind of empty after watching it and am very sad at the idea that a continuation will likely not happen till 2019 by the looks of things.
Anyway I will get on to the review at hand………(dark hard is crushing heart)………. (drinks alcohol and gets over it)………… Anyway Re: Zero is one of those anime where the character goes to another universe where everything is all knights, dragons and magic. Generally you probably have seen this before in anime like “G.A.T.E.” where the Japanese military go through a portal to a magical world, or the likes of “Konosuba” which is an opposite to Re: Zero in this sub-genre where “Konosuba” is all humor and LOL’s, Zero is all darkness and tragedy.
Unlike “G.A.T.E” where you follow a rag tag team of elite soldiers and harem girls all out winning in an alternate reality. Zero follows a character whom is always losing and must make smart changes in personality and decision making to win against a dark fate. Some would compare this series to SAO MMO alternate reality but the character is not playing an MMO but is playing a very painful version of Dark Souls by the looks of things. Also unlike SAO we don’t follow a harem magnet garry stu but a character we can consider a Jackass called Subaru ……….(noticed grip on heart loosened when calling Subaru a jackass and taking a joke out of SAO)……….
One day our MC like many of us is reading Manga and getting some food at a local convenient store after a whole day of gaming, probably not playing dark souls considering what constantly happens in this show cause you think he know better. When leaving the convenience store he finds himself in another reality where everything is medieval and demi humans walk the streets with humans. So what happens to Subaru then? Does he get a magic weapon? No, does he get told an ancient prophecy? No, does he meet a cute girl? Yes but more likely gets saved by a girl. Subara after an embarrassing confrontation with thieves gets saved by our main heroine for Emilia. Subaru tries to help Emilia in return but sadly dies. When Subaru dies however he gets brought back to a point in the past and is forced to relive his death unless he can find some way to stop what is going to kill him and other characters.
The whole gimmick of the Re: Zero is that Subaru experiences the worse of the world he now resides in and has to repeat/suffer through it until he can find a solution. The story is at most dark through scenes of pure shock value and despair. At times the story can be good with everyone in good spirit only to be followed by more despair then before. The story can be at time too dramatic for its own good and feel a bit forced. Unlike the production of “Akame Ga Kill”, White Fox did not severely rush this series in its final episodes a stuck to balanced pacing. The one thing I hated about the story is that when it ended I just wanted there to be more as the ending did not satisfy me enough to expect a season two and answer all the questions concerning Subaru’s ability.
When talking about the characters Of Re: Zero I will take note of this popularity pole Crunchyroll had a week before the last episode. Out of 20000 people the pole had certain characters voted in a top 5 as favourites so I guess I will talk about these characters since so many people love them apparently (sinisterly chuckles). Beatrice was the 5th most popular character among fans more than likely Crunchy Roll is popular with lolicons, so I guess I nothing much to say here other than she likes animals more than humans since I did not find anything too complex about them. The fourth most popular was Emilia our main heroine. Emilia is a half elf with silver hair who has lived a live troubled by the fact she looks like an evil witch that once tried to cause mayhem in the world. Although you got to like Emilia she is likely the character that will be the most different in every time loop. In the first one her character and perspective of Subaru is different because of how much he interacted with her in that loop. Her position in the world makes it hard for her to interact with Subaru in later arcs which makes her impact as heroine have little effect in the episodes after the first arc.
The Third most popular character in that Poll was actually Emilia’s spirit cat Puck which likely has to do with the fact that the internet loves cats thus his obvious popularity. It would more than likely have to do with the fact that puck can be an absolute savage when he wants to be and is prone to trolling with Subaru. The second most favourite character of that Poll was actually Subaru believe it or not despite all the hate I see for him all over the interwebs talking about how he is a trash character. I see Subaru as Jackass …………… (the dark hand of re zero hate has vanished) ……….. But I kind of like the fact he is a jackass …………..(Cyborg_Dragon just died a result of his heart exploding)….(Cyborg_Dragons Ghost will continue writing the review).
As a bit of a Jackass myself I will have to say I like Subaru more then I hate him despite being a huge problem for health insurance firms everywhere. Despite getting butchered he was able for a while to not let pain of dying get to him and tries and stays humorous. The only point I did not like his Character was around episode 14 where he seemed selfish and acted on instinct. I he is not the best character but I have seen a lot of characters in anime that where so bad they can make a characters like Subaru look like the second coming Jesus. The most popular character amongst fans was Rem the maid who works with Subaru at Roswaals mansion. Despite being classified as a minor character they are likely the character with the most development in the show and it’s not hard to hate this particular character either considering they are the fan favourite. I really won’t say much else about that character since it might spoil the show for those who are planning to watch it. In my view they are the most interesting female character in the show. The characters I had a personal liking to are Roswaal whom makes Subaru his B$tch which is pretty funny and Wilhelm who is a personification of bad ass.
In the Art Department the animation is good and fluid. When there are fight scenes between Characters you can expect top quality animation. The whole thing is very colourful and in the gore department there is more than you would see in the other popular anime out there. The character designs are the most imaginative yet generic for a fantasy world. The only one to stand out is Subaru who is wearing a tracksuit making it seem as if he is that one guy at an anime convention that did not dress up. The special effects such as explosions and magic are pretty and shiny like you would find in a high budget anime by a studio like White Fox.
Now on to the sound department. In terms of Music you have the catchy openings with interesting visuals. The OST can be mixture of music that can have a dark vibe or a happy vibe. I was not a big fan of the ending themes as they did get me to keep listening and I ended up skipping them for the after credit scene each episode. I would like to talk about the voice actors as they seemed greatly picked to produce the emotion. Subaru VA Yuusuke Kobayashi was picked apparently because he naturally sounded like a Jackass to the director of the anime which tells you what was targeting when picking actors to fill the voice roles.
All in all if you somehow stuck to here then you can tell I liked the show or you could just tell that by looking at the score.

With season 2 coming out I decided to re-watch Attack On Titan which was the anime that resulted in me becoming an anime fan. In the year 2013 a few friends recommended me an anime called Attack On Titan. I was in that year not into anime at all and was that guy who was a video gamer only. Then I watched the show itself and found it extremely intense cool compared to what I was expecting. After watching the anime I was left with emptiness and decided to fill the hole the show left by watching many more anime. Attack on Titan was
...
my kind of show, where heroes used very cool technology referred to as odm gear to take on extremely powerful opponents called titans in battles that resulted in many deaths. With top notch animation to boot Attack On Titan was a series I fell in love with after a few episodes.
Every year has that one anime that becomes extremely popular and in the year 2013 Attack On Titan was that anime. So what attracted people to this series was its story. The story is set in situation where humanity is being brought to the brink of extinction by these giant humanoids called titans. These titans seem to have no objective other than to eat every human they encounter. To save themselves the human race built three giant walls to protect themselves from the titans. One day the biggest titan ever seen appears and creates a hole in the wall.
As a result a third of the population is lost and in realizing the stakes are high a member of the audience can get interested in the struggles of the human race to survive. Certain events in the series can shock a viewer but that is what makes Attack On Titan interesting cause if it did not do so the series would be and average anime where everyone survives extremely dangerous.
The main story is what happened after the incident and follows a group of rookie soldiers which are the main cast of characters referred to as the 104th corps. In the series the story becomes a struggle for the 104th as they are brought into duty to fight for humanity. The characters go into battle realising they could easily get killed by a titan anytime. The main story is like a continuous stress test for the 104th who must endure to win which goes for some more than others.
The 104th consist of many soldiers but only certain members stick out which includes the top ten. The top ten are the rookies who have the highest survival rate amongst the 104th which makes them the characters to get the screen time. The one who is most central to the story is Eren Yeager. Eren is the first to be introduced and wishes to kill all the titans one day. Eren starts off as immature but he will grow on you as he becomes more willing to rely on his comrades. He is a character who acts all tough but he cannot stand seeing anyone die.
Other Major characters in the top ten include Mikasa Ackerman who is the strongest of the 104th. They seem like a calm character but they are the type to kill everything in their path if they lose their composure. I like her character a lot because I find her to be a badass. Other crucial characters include Jean who is a character who grows on you over time as he seems selfish at first but like Eren gives a damn about the other soldiers although he is not as open about it. As a leader he makes logical decisions that result in the least deaths.
Other characters that are significant are Armin who is not really strong but is the most intelligent in the 104th. Compared to other characters he is more of a tactician then a soldier and is more better giving commands then fighting. There are also elite soldiers like Levi and Erwin who have a big impact on the story and other soldiers. Apart from those few the other central characters have great personalities that make them stand out from the crowd.
The Art in this series is really good. The soldiers are drawn well and movements are fluid. The main villains the titans are drawn in a way to make them extremely menacing and creepy. The textures used in materials such as the buildings, clothing and the wall itself are very nice and smooth. In the effects department some things such as explosions, buildings coming down, smoke and light on at the top level. There is a bit of gore in this series that can be brutal at times as these titans do tend to chew their victims to death.
One major cool thing about the animation is how they animate the scenes where characters use the odm gear. The odm gear is a grapple hook gadget that makes the characters into steampunk spidermen with swords. In the scenes where they use the gear there is a lot of 3d cgi with the buildings the characters are zooming around. The 2d characters are done so fluently that the mix of two art styles makes these scenes seem badass.
The music of this series is a mix between catchy and epic. The opening themes which include linked horizon are fun to listen to and have that catchy rhythm that gets you ready for an episode. In the show we get some epic battle scenes where the best and most suitable music is used to make the situation give off more of an adrenaline rush to the viewer. The sound effects used are on par and don't miss the mark in lining up with the animation in fast paced scenes.
Attack on Titan is a really good anime with epic moments of awesome animation that would be of liking to any general anime fan. If you are someone looking for an anime where the characters seem to be in a hopeless situation then this is the show for you.

As an individual in his early twenty's ReLIFE serves as a good reminder of the little things I missed about being a teenager. When I was a teenager I took what I had for granted and I also have lots of regrets. When I was a teenager I honestly did not enjoy school and I was pretty much like the character Hishiro who would have trouble making friends and changing habits. The only thing I enjoyed was getting home so I can shut off. So after watching ReLIFE I went over my regrets about being that one guy who spent his days studying and
...
being friendless but I learned a valuable lesson of enjoying what I have now and living life to the fullest by taking any opportunity given to me.
So you might think did ReLIFE upset me? No it just appealed to me as a viewer who is past his school days which has inspired me to do more as an adult. If you are some student in High school you might learn to cherish your youth more by watching this show. ReLIFE is one of those shows that is an example of anime not being for just young people as it more appeals to people past their teenage years. I was at first giving ReLIFE a seven or eight at first but gave it a nine after really liking the ending to the show which was game changer.
So ReLIFE is the story of our main character Arata who is struggling to find a job at the age of twenty eight because he quit his first job after three months. Society deems him as a half-neet so no one will hire him for work leaving him to eventually live with his parents in the country an idea he isn’t too fond of unless he can get proper work somewhere. After drinking a lot he meets Yoake who works at ReLIFE laboratory whose goal is to come up with a way to get someone un-neeted and ask Arata to participate in an experiment. The experiment in question involves using a drug to make Arata look like a high schooler and relive a senior year in high school which due to being drunk Arata agrees and wakes up realising Yoake was not joking.
Throughout the story Arata gets involved with the problems of his classmates. As the story progresses Arata betters the life of the students while the same could be said about him. The story can sometimes feel a bit slow and a lot of the time it’s a bit of laughs. The main thing to note is that series ends on high note that makes me wish for a season two in the near future.
The characters in the series include a variety of trope characters which include the quiet girl (Hishiro), a tsundere (Rena), a dense dude (Oga), a transfer student (An), and the childhood friend trio Honoka, Akira and Asaji. The characters are in their last year of school and things come between them which can ruin their memories of high school and their friendships. Our MC Arata who will be forgotten by all of them after the experiment task himself on making sure their last year is a good one.
Arata does this by trying to act like the adult (because he is one) and uses his wisdom and experience to come up with a solution. While reflecting on his past experiences Arata comes at a cross roads with himself and has to overcome his problems if he is to solve those of others. Yoake is also similar to Arata as Yoake is trying to overcome his past problems by trying to make sure Arata's experiment is a success.
The most interesting of the student characters is Hishiro, Rena and Honoka who are central in the social problems between the students. Hishiro has never made a friend and is a loner who's troubles unravel slowly as the series progress as they learn how to make friends. Rena is a very stubborn character who can't say what is on their mind because they are afraid of what others think. Honoka is a character that only enjoys school for a single reason and without that reason she cannot enjoy life as a student.
The art in the series is average but slightly colourful at times. The colours in question are usually bright blue green and orange which makes the series not appear entirely dull in the art department. Stuff like character movements can sometimes appear stiff but this is not an action anime so that is ok. There is not really much to say about character designs other than they are pretty standard for a slice of life anime set in school. Sometimes the animation does change however to make humorous moments seem more humorous.
There is not much background music to ReLIFE, the opening is decent however the ending theme does change every episode to some 90s or early 2000s track. I kind of like how this is done to reflect the age of Arata as he would be someone to listen to such music.
I did enjoy ReLIFE and what messages it was trying to deliver. If you like the school drama series or a fan of series about growing up then ReLIFE may be for you.

I would give the series as whole a 9 out of 10 but I will give the last season 10 as it did what I liked about Full Metal Alchemist which was have a satisfying conclusion which cuts the loose ends and stuck to good pacing. When I write this review I will act as if I am reviewing the series as a whole. Assassination classroom was in its first season your average Shonen series with an interesting concept of having the students try to kill the teacher.
If you don't know what this series is basically the concept is a class of forty students
...
which are our main characters must band together to assassinate their teacher before they graduate. Seems easy except their teacher is overpowered in the concept of defence which makes him difficult to kill let alone hit. While trying to avoid death every episode the teacher tries to help their students cope with the problems of middle school. In its first season classroom can be repetitious with each episode focusing on certain groups of students trying to make an attempt on the teacher’s life or trying to get through some problem at school with help of their teacher.
While it does seem like a comedy the show has its share of feels at points in the story where the students are in conflict with their school and personal lives. This is especially in the second season where the students are graduating soon and must plan their future. While the story is mainly arcs of assassination attempts there are some main arcs which affect the overall story for the student and teacher. The best of these arcs shows up in the second halve of the series and is where the show shines the most. The series has what many anime don't have and that is a solid conclusion that does not leave the audience wanting more or leave loads of loose ends.
The art in assassination classroom is very shiny and bright. Everything seems really smooth and the characters don't look ugly or bland for a show that cast 50 main characters. The character designs are skewed amongst the students, some look pretty average or normal while others could stand out because of mostly their hair colour or where some personal item that is not part of the uniform. There are a few adult characters that are designed pretty well which include agent’s teachers and assassins. The most stands out character would have to be Koro Sensei the teacher who has unique look but changes to disguises a lot of the time and the fact he is something that does not look human.
The Music in this series does not have much of a presence and not much is playing in the background noise of the show. They do use some music for key moments but that is really all in their use of music in the actual show. The opening theme is the only thing unique about the sound. The opening themes are always performed by the voice actors of the students who all sing together.
There are plenty of characters in classroom so I will generalize the students to give a quick description of what kind of characters they are. The school in classroom have a strict policy where the lowest performing or most awkward students are put away into a separate classroom away from the good students the school praise while cursing the students in separate classroom as failures who will be nothing after school just to make the favourite students feel better. Our main cast are these separate students who have a very low self-confidence in themselves because of this.
They actually are not bad students it is just some of them are very smart and have learning difficulties or they are students who have a lot of pressure from their personal life at home. Those are the majority while a very small few where trouble makers and transfer students who joined in the second year. In the series two characters stand out as the leaders amongst this group of students which are Nagisa and Karma.
Nagisa is the character telling the story in Classroom and is seen as the main protagonist amongst the students. He is pretty much one of the worst off students in E-Class when it comes to confidence. I won't say why he has such low confidence but it being so low is why he is so low on grades when he is smart when he wants to be. As the series progresses he becomes a better character by trying to cope with his problems by assassination. If you were to have a favourite character amongst the students of classroom it would either be Nagisa or Karma for different reasons.
Karma is the other central student in classroom who was a friend of Nagisa before they both ended up in the classroom. While Nagisa has low confidence and calm kind demeanour Karma is somewhat the opposite. Karma for starters is a genius and likely the most intelligent student in the school. However he is very sinister and has had a lot of bloodlust entering the classroom as he loves having the opportunity of killing a teacher.
The teacher Koro-Sensei is probably the best teacher we will ever get to see in anime. While being the target who is constantly avoiding death by student, Koro-Sensei shows a lot of care and support for his students and makes you wish they were not trying to kill him as he loves them a lot and will help them when they are in need.
I really enjoyed Classroom it was a good series with a satisfying conclusion and interesting characters. Despite its humour and lightness it really dives into personal conflict which I like seeing in anime. If you want any reason to watch classroom you should just watch it for the conclusion as it is really satisfying for a 40 episode shonen. I would give the series a nine but I will give its final season a ten.

Time to watch an episode of Wacky Rac......... I mean watch Redline which is pretty much the anime equivalent of Wacky Races. In case you do not know what Wacky Races is you did not have a childhood. Anyway time to get out of my nostalgia trip and get into a drug trip as that will make Redlines unique art style more unique if that where any bit possible.
Redline is a anime movie that has had a lot of work put into its animation and when I mean a lot its literally seven years of drawing for Madhouse who made it. If there
...
is any reason to watch Redline it is definitely for the hand drawn frames of art that the movie is animated in. The art style itself is very colourful and my reference to drug trip earlier would give you an idea of how colourful I am talking about. Basically during mainly the final part of the movie so much stuff is going on that the animations looks crazy with a multitude of flashing colors and movements.
If you are a animation junkie you will definitely fall in love with Redline. If you are a simple viewer who loves to just be entertained this will probably kill two of your hours. If you are someone looking for a deep story with loads of characters sorry but this place isn’t for you. Redline story is absolutely simple where a group of racers are participating in Redline which is the professional race above all other races in the galaxy. What are they racing for Redline? Really fast hover vehicles. Where is Redline happening? This one planet roboworld full of evil robodudes who don't like the idea of people racing on their roboplanet.
So the story is about a very high speed race where the drivers are in trouble of getting blown to pieces by the local military. Our main characters name is JP or Sweet JP who is a space greaser type character. His role is to be the cool guy we want to see win the race. We have another main character Sonoshee who is the female racer we want to win/love interest for JP. The main characters and pretty much everyone in this movie are generic space movie characters. There are weird aliens, robots and such who accompany the cast however no characters get fleshed out which is not the aim of film. The aim of the film is to produce animation beauty and not deep characters.
Redline has a nice upbeat soundtrack that because upbeat in the moments necessary. If you have ever seen a racing movie you can recall music which gets extremely upbeat as the engine because to roar to the max. This is the case with the music in Redline as those moments where things go crazier the music goes for the same level of insanity as the engines rise in volume.
My overall enjoyment of Redline was like a two hour long drinking session where I would get drunk and have a good laugh. In this case I am drunk on the beauty of the animation rather than the alcohol. Overall I would give the film a nine out of ten as like a drinking session I was not fully satisfied with the ending (don't worry I was not vomiting at the end of Redline).

The number seven is always a thing that comes up in anime. It’s always used as way to give characters diverse tropes or is a number to represent objects a hero must smash to save the world. Seven Deadly Sins or SDS is your generic action series about a group of interesting characters uniting to fight a large scale foe. If you like stuff such as the "Legend of Arslan" and "Yona of the Dawn" you might like this show as the story is similar to a degree.
Like Yona and Arslan SDS includes a young future ruler Elizabeth seeking out a group of powerful warriors
...
to take back her kingdom from tyranny. The warriors are the Sins who are these very powerful magic wielding knights who are wanted for trying to take over the kingdom ten years before. Each episode has our heroes fight new foes continuously who are at different levels of strength so it’s pretty generic but is still interesting.
There was a point in the story where I felt there was a cop out to make things less serious then they were at that point. Despite its looks this show can be very dark at points. The cop out was that they had this one opportunity in later episodes where they can make the show more intense but they did not go through with it likely out of fear of how the fans would react.
The Art of this series is very bright and colorful which at first makes you kind of feel you are watching something meant for kids. Later on however when you see stuff like people get torn in halve and stabbed a lot, you come to think "oh I underestimated this show in the R Rating". Character designs are another reason I thought this series seemed very childish at first. All characters are dressed in very colorful clothing thus not looking like the battle hardened knights of legend they are known to be. Our main hero who is the strongest does not look like a force to be reckoned with while characters such as Ban who look bad but are the probably the most nicest of the bunch in terms of what they stand for.
The characters in SDS are a peculiar bunch of interesting faces Meliodas being our main character is a very powerful bada$$ full of mystery. He has a bit of a tragic backstory that had not been fully fleshed out. Ban who was one of the characters I liked the most is the a$$hole of the group but you come to really love him when you learn his true goal in his current affairs. I also liked the character Gowther who was more a comic relief character during his role in the show. I got to like the other characters such as King and Diane. Elizabeth I only saw as the girl who needed to be saved however and thus her character was the one I paid less attention to.
SDS was pretty good in terms of an action series. It has its high moments and thus it will be memorable.

It is common for a lot of people to drop an anime after one episode. It is also common for somebody to watch a whole series with a good first episode only to be extremely disappointing with the ending or last few episodes or halve the episodes. I find it rare for people to say a first episode is horrible but the show is good.
I remember watching the first season of Terra Formars when it was airing a year or two back and thinking it is a pretty decent show. So when I watched the first episode of the second season of Terra Formars
...
I was on the point of giving the series an overall score of four and dropping. After watching the full season of Revenge I have to say this show had a good comeback from the cruddy first episode it gave us.
When I watched the first episode of Terra Formars Revenge I had the same problem as other people. The show felt like it turned from a dark sci-fi series to an episode of Dragon Ball Z. This was mainly due to one of our main hero's going super Saiyan or should I say super Moth resulting in a big unrealistic explosion like I was watching some Michael Bay movie. Instead of dropping the show I said to myself I keep watching to see how much more they will wreck this show. To my surprise the show actually got better in terms of story with being fateful to the Manga by adapting some of the best arcs in the manga in the right way and of course completely erasing unnecessary explosions after episode 1.
Apart from episode one which was a big joke that roughly came out on April fool’s Day (coincidence?). Every episode carried the story well and allowed a lot of characters both major and minor to develop freely. The show had each minor arc a battle between groups of characters. The best were the ones between the minor characters which was the case in the final part of the show and the part of the show that focused on Alexander. The arc with Alexander was one of the best from the Manga, seeing it done fatefully gave me hope for this show. Apart from the first episode the only other problem with the story is that it’s too short for 13 episodes.
The Art was the only other thing people went crazy about. The art in season one was a lot darker, characters and environments had a lot more detail and the cockroaches looked less hilarious then they do now. In this season everything is a lot more shiny and bright. The characters designs have changed and the level of detail for the whole cast are downgraded. When the human characters transform to use their powers, most look like they just got tattoos applied to their faces rather than go through a major transformation.
Now the art when it comes to action scenes is far different then the actions scenes from the first season. When someone were bruised they looked like they were bruised they had bruises. When someone were cut they looked like they were cut. When someone was missing and arm or a leg it was extremely gory. The show kind of lost some its extremes that made it appealing to a mature audience by doing this. .
The Music In revenge was sometimes really good especially in the fights. The opening and ending themes where ok but were nothing compared to the opening in the first season. The voice cast in the Japanese Dub of the anime differentiate with different members of the cast. Some voices were pretty plain while others stood out in terms of emotion.
The characters in the series include the return of our surviving main cast from the last season of the show. The series does not force us to keep our eyes on the main cast the whole time. It keeps our eyes on the characters that have the most influence on what is currently happening in the story. This includes minor characters both fighters and non-fighters. I hate it when an anime forces the main characters into the centre of every situation because they are the main character. So seeing Revenge give the wheel to some others for a change is refreshing.
Overall I enjoyed the show, I am hopeful for a season 3 with better art but I will have to wait and see.

So a superhero shonen, will it be like most shonens were the MC is pretty powerful from the get go for a newcomer who wins every battle without much effort? Wait we have a wimpy kid who does not have any powers? Well ok this might be interesting. These are my first thoughts when I watched My Hero Academia which is the series of spring 2016 that I enjoyed the most while it was airing.
Unlike One Punch Man where the series has the MC at his top level in the beginning, This series has our main protagonist starting at the most low. If you
...
like series where a really unreliable person becomes reliable you might like this series. If you are also a fan of the superhero genre I think you can find it rather entertaining.
In a world where a vast majority of people have superpowers heroes and villains are common. Our main protagonist who was born with no powers wants to become a hero. I got a bit of feels watching the first few episodes of the series when learning about the struggles of the main character in this society. The story is really strong in the beginning in giving what is basically the main characters own origin story. The rest of the 13 episode series stays strong till the end. The story hits you strong at some points mainly during times where Deku (Izuku) Is put down for not having any powers.
The story includes is share of fights and battles mainly set in the second halve of the season. Some of the fights had a tendency to be truly brutal and dramatic. In ordinary shonen fights are never like that to me because the characters always seem unscathed in the aftermath of situations where people can die. I think this is greatly emphasized in the suffering of Izuku and All Might during these fights and the acts the villains are capable of.
I have been a fan of how studio bones does the art in their anime. The art style in terms of the powers and the damage caused by and to the characters and the environments reminds me a bit of full metal alchemist art style in relation to the damage with the smoothness of the powers animations similar to those in concrete revolution. The character designs are top notch especially in terms of superhero outfits. The main thing I want to note about the art is how it shows damage on the heroes. Sometimes its average and sometimes its really bad and gives you a true sense they are in danger.
The music in this series is ok with some good battle music and a good opening and ending theme. The voices in this Japenes Dub especially with the characters All Might, Izuku and Bakugou are well played and suit the characters.
The series being very short managed to create some interesting characters that were not shallow. With a lot of supporting characters only three really stand out. First being Izuku who is a character the audience can relate to when it comes to achieving life goals. Izuku at first you think he is going to be one of those annoying MCs that will bring the show down but he makes the show by backing up his words with actions. All Might is a very intriguing and humorous hero, If you like the concept of the old hero still trying to live his glory days All might will be a character you can enjoy watching.
Bakugou the childhood friend of Izuku is not a really likable character at first but he gets more interesting in the later episodes. He is a character with a big flaw in his personality but when he wants he can make up for it. The other characters who are supporting don't have much of a role then to be introduced. Their introduction is not that bad as it is not forced like most anime with a massive cast.
This series was the most fun I had with the spring 2016 anime. It never seemed rushed and was good binge watch entertainment. I also feel like the series left off on a good high note.

Ever since I was in my early teens I have been a fan of the zombie genre which started out as me playing all the Resident Evil games to reading all The Walking Dead comics. When I became a fan of anime one of my first thoughts was were there any good or decent zombie genre anime out there. There was really none out there other than ecchi girls vs zombies (High School of the Dead) or moe girls vs zombies (Gakkougurashi!) or as a theme for a single episode. I think Kabaneri is probably one of the only takes on the zombie genre in
...
anime that can be taken as if you watching a proper zombie genre story unfold. However The story is not perfect its probably the best we got for a serious zombie anime for a wall.
With all the negativity about the show people will probably think my current score is too positive however I don't factor in petty stuff like hype or rip-off accusations when I review something. I go into anime a lot with low expectations and I literally only heard of this show when it was coming out. Also I am pretty tired of Attack on Titan comparisons and this show is not the first I have seen with such accusations and I bet it won't be the last. If I where to be honest I would say it does have some elements when it comes to steam punk weapons and contraptions but that is pretty much it.
The story takes place in an industrial revolution apocalyptic world where humanity resides in these places called stations. The main story focuses on some humans trying to get from one of these stations to another while fending off these super zombies known as Kabane. Zombie genre stories go one of two ways. one being a story that focuses on what makes someone human where you have a group of weak or moderlately strong survivors trying to survive in best way available to them. The second you have an action series where a group of badasses kill zombies each day. Kabaneri is more of the latter when it comes to a zombie series.
The story has its high points and epic moments of pure Badassery that make the story fun. However the story is what is flawed with this series and is where it loses its points from me. I feel like the story was a bit rushed in the last few episodes. I feel like the series should have been twenty four episode since the pacing near the end seemed too fast. If the story did not feel as rushed in the end as it did I would have scored the series higher might have even given it a ten.
The art in this series is absolutely amazing as WIT studio use similar high budget animation techniques like the ones they used in AOT to animate this series. The character designs are unique and makes them easily recognizable and not blend with the crowd of extras on the train and stations. The fights with the zombies known as the kabane are pretty epic when the fight look like a camera is paning around are characters as they take out the Kabane. There is some CGI used but it ain't horrible as it is really subtle making it hard to notice. If there was anything that truly carried this series it would be the art.
The only other thing that would be truly carrying this series is the music. The music in this series is absolutely amazing. The opening and ending themes are beautiful. In scenes such as fights or epic moments the music is like a gloss that makes those scenes shine better. The japanese voices don't really pack much emotion other than Ikoma or Mumei in their worst moments.
The characters in this series do feel shallow apart from Ikoma and Mumei who get the most development. I do like them but I felt the series could of developed the supporting cast a bit better. I really liked Ikoma as he pretty much was a rebellious badass throughout the series. My only problem was I think he might be a bit deaf as he shouted "MUMEI" alot. Mumei who was a really badass character in the beginning did a bunch of 180s later on. We also had a villain but like other characters they too were shallow.
Despite its problems I enjoyed Kabaneri. It was thrill ride but due to a few road bumps it lost its chance at being the perfect zombie genre anime.
