...
Sara slayed so hard she cuntified the land.
Watching this is dub is hilarious and Alejandro Saab and the rest of the cast did an outstanding work! They slayed so hard they also cuntified the land.
Does this anime contain doomed yaoi? For sure, but with a good ending. :)
For real for real I 100% recommend this as a great watch for non-bl lovers and lovers of bl.

I can see why this movie has such poor ratings.
I'm an avid yaoi/bl/smut/shoujo/josei reader/watcher and I have consumed my fair share of these genres. Let me tell you this movie is down right boring and awkward.
Boring as in the stories never gets anywhere and the pace is so damn slow. Awkward because 2/3 end in such an awkward feeling or the story itself is collar pulling awkward.
Lets break down each story.
1st Story: A yuri couple who find each other at a wedding for a girl they both dated/loved. Now I'm not a big fan of yuri stories (Team Yaoi here), but I'm not
...
against watching yuri if there is a good story. I think this story probably could have ran the whole movie if they fleshed it out more. Two broken hearts becoming one is great story. Alas we never get to know the girls besides the glossed over sex scenes, some short small talk about their past love, and I guess the very still scene of them watching a movie together. All in all very boring but I guess very normal.
2nd Story: Here's the BL I was anticipating. Alas all I got was disappointment. We start off with an all boy's highschool teacher. He's bored out of his mind because the graduation ceremony for the boys is just him passing out diplomas. After the "ceremony" he's at his desk and a newly graduated boy confesses to him. Nothing really happens as both of them are completely silent, and no one is blushing or anything. That moment gets interrupted by a teacher and now we move to the teacher in his bedroom looking at the yearbook. He find's the student who just confessed to him and starts to have those "lovey dovey feelings". Aaand then a year passes and nothing happens. He has some dialouge where "highschool boys will be boys". He meets his sister, finds out his sister is with a guy who looks kind of like the student that confessed to him. I guess teacher figures out he likes highschool boys? Fast foward two years he asks his graduating class to hang out with him. They do and then one of the boys decides everyone should go to "sensei's house". Which teacher is like but everyone will be packed in. The student goes "and we will be touching like (shoulder to shoulder)." Which the teacher blushed a little and tried to invite them....and then END.
If you are super confused, so am I.
3rd Story:I believe this is a coming of age story but its hella awkward. We start off with an Elementary school kid doing his homework with a fellow classmate girl. I suppose the image is innocence and naivity. Now in comes the plot device, a college graduate porn star lives in the kid's house. She's the image of adulthood, big boobs blonde hair, and I guess enlightens the boy on puberty. Of course she has her porn tape and the two kids find it. The boy is very afraid and the girl she is curious, but you know what they say..."curiosity killed the cat". And now these two kids have just realized what sex is. The girl oh she is just gone, the boy is embarrassed. He starts to have wet dreams, which he is super against washing is trousers in much rage and trying to rid himself of what he watched. One day the girl wants to try out what they just learned, which the boy is super against. Now we fast foward a few years they are in highschool and its now the girl's point of view. She I guess attempts to masturbate/try to orgasm. Watches the porn video. She is in love with the boy and wants to try sex with him. Eventually they figure they love each other and the boy get's a handful of her tatas in a storage room at the school. They are nominated best couple and get prized a condom and I guess the ending the author wants us to get is that they had sex. Oh and I guess the porn star was a rival to the relationship but not really. I think it was more like the boy awakened his sexuality.
Now if you are just pulling your collar after reading that and going...."Uhhhhhhh." so am I.
The stories while they really could have gone somewhere (or maybe not even existed) should have really fleshed out the characters and have a complete ending. Or maybe stick to one story in a 53 minute long movie.
1/10
Art:I would say mediocre. There wasn't a lot of animation, more like still images or very slow. This would have a much higher score if it was a manga. 5/10
Sound:Felt like background music. I'm not a musician but the music never really boosted the scene. Just kinda there. 3/10
Characters: Dreadful almost pathetic but I suppose realistic with the yuri couple. The movie never really fleshed out these characters. So I never really got to know them. I only know them at face value/cliches. 2/10
Enjoyment:Very boring and/or very awkward. For all the reasons above^^^ 3/10
Overall: 3/10 would I watch this again? No. Would I watch a sequel? No. Would I recommend it? No. It only gets a 3/10 because the art is okay and the potential was there. They just dropped the ball pretty much 90% of the movie.

This romance story will bring quite a wave of emotions.
My top scores would have to be Art and Story. Lowest would be Characters then Sound. Heres what I think:
Art: 9| While the art really brings out the emotions, it kind of looks weird at certain times, kind of alien. It is so much better than some lip flapping picture though!
Story: 8| The plot of the story brings you in and the beginning sets up the romance story to be something great, but the amount of timeskips or quick speed ups to try to fit a romance story that should be more fleshed out into a
...
1hr time frame, kind of kills the big tragedy that's suppose to set up for the revival at the end.
Sound: 5| The theme song is super chipper, really sets the fun in the waves and how nice it is in that summer surfing season. Its just when its sung the 11th billion time that is gets old. Not to mention the very mediocre soundtrack that accompanies a scene. Wouldn't mind just listening to background or sfx over the music.
Characters: 7| While the main (Misako) has a lot of bright, cheery eyed, star struck, klutz you learn to love and cry and cheer with. The other characters aren't so fleshed out and are more like story placeholders rather than actual beings.
Overal & Enjoyment: 8| I enjoyed it! The art is captivating, funny, sad, and the story is well thought out. Misako is a character I would love to have as a friend. I wish I could talk with someone I love by singing a song and calling them up from the water. It has some bad sides, but that's what happens when a big romance tragedy and revival arc all have to fit in a 1 hr time slot. I would love to be able to read this as a manga or even watch it as an episodic anime show.
Spoilers Ahead!
The story the art and even the characters are so nicely drawn, with so much emotions. You wish that you could be there in those heartbreaking moments, or wish you can slap those fire making gangstas' faces.
The art style really brings out those emotions. Instead of static faces with a lip flap, you can see their whole face contort or scrunch up or even get super red. It makes them more animated and relatable than some 2D mouth moving picture. The story is a wave of emotions itself. From the beginning where it sets up some guy admiring his "hero" and this girl who wants to be out there, do things, show the world she is more. Then the two meeting up realizing they have so much more in common and a past too. Their love story blossoms until it is all taken away from him saving someone's life. In the end though, the girl realizes her dreams, finds her place in the big world, and realizes she can take on any wave.
But what this story lacks, is the time it needs to flesh out a romance. The beginning is sweet. Its romantic. It drags me in because I see the romance blossom in real time, but then I'm suppose to believe in tiny glimpses of the romantic adventure these two have in short tiny story points? Yes it's cute they are singing the theme with tiny laughs and so much emotion, but I can't relate or really see everything blossom.
Its like trying to figure out what the ocean is except you live in the middle of a continent and all you have is a snow globe that's has a small replica of "Panama Beach".
So when the big dramatic climax comes in, I'm not invested enough in the relationship to realize how big the drop, the tragedy, will become. I'm sad that such a lovable character was taken away from me, but how can I feel heartbreak when I haven't even felt love? I'm sad that Misako is so broken down, I'm sad that her passion to surf died with her boyfriend. I'm sad that such a bright sun like her is so broken. Yet her boyfriend who is the tragedy, I'm not so sad about and their now broken relationship.
Okay, so time is one downside. In romance you have to take it slow sometimes to really make the drop so much more painful. Another downside to this story is...the side characters.
So we have Wasabi and Kyoko, and also Misako's two friends. In the beginning we see a bit of all of them. All their different personalities but they seem more like static characters or placeholders then actual beings. Misako's friends are just that "her friends". I don't see the quirky or the hip or the sloth or anything. Just two placeholders friends for two scenes.
Kyuoko seems just like another placeholder too, except with a larger role. She is the little sister Hinako and pretty protective too. She has this running gag with "Love is bad" but she isn't really funny or something cute. She's just kind of pops up sometimes. The we go back to Misako sulking, or a timeskip, or her talking to water Hinako.
Wasabi, I had high hopes for. Like maybe by the end he would be so much more. Maybe be a senior firefighter or help Misako with the flower shop. Instead we are pushed this weird, "So like, I know you were my former bff's gf but like...I've always liked you soooo, wanna like me?" At this point I'm disappointed. The story does skip over this mistep, "by not bringing him back till the end (and one scene with Kyoto) [yes I spelled it wrong]." Eventually he becomes a "good firefighter" and eventually gets a girl that actually likes him.
The sound is pretty mediocre too. The waves don't really sound good, but I'll leave that out, cause I can see the recording issues. The soundtrack is pretty bland, and my the time you hear the theme song the 11th billion time it kind of gets pretty boring too. I'm not a sound expert but I could have just watched the movie with just regular sfx and I would have still been fine.

As someone who has watched most of the 21st century shoujo romance and has dabbled in the older shoujo, I can say this would be the foundation or original piece of shoujo that other shoujo animes take inspiration from.
From the personality of the main heroine with her overflowing sense of friendship, perseverance, non-popular and obviousness.
To the popular nice guy, kind, funny, and very much in love with the heroine
And the spunky friends and family who support, cherish, and wholeheartedly love our main heroine and the love interest.
Lastly the drama makers who try to cut into the romance either by being in love with the
...
heroine or in love with the love interest, and always being the cutest or second best popular guy.
While at times where it maybe be at all unrealistic: it's something that makes your heart flutter in excitement when you feel the unwavering cuteness and care the characters have with each other. The "awe yeah" moment when the girl trio accomplish something. The times when you feel you need a window seat to stare out into space, or the "blush/aw really" you get when something just passes right over Sawako head.
If you want a shoujo that IS the shoujo genre I would highly recommend this anime as it is the lovely highschool fantasy that everyone wishes to have but doesn't happen XD.
