Like, holy shit.

If you've been waiting for the next dark """mecha""", battlefield psychological thriller drama, this is it. It ticks all of the boxes. Political intrigue. Moral dilemma. Man vs. machine. Man vs. society. The pains of war. A mysterious technology on which the plot hinges. A faceless, unapproachable yet deeply imposing enemy. A little bit of supernatural thrown in between to spice things up. It's not subtle about it - but it doesn't need to be.

It is in and of itself wholly contained and perfectly presentable as a single cour - which I would have to applaud the ... team for. The pacing is bang-on and the use of recurring split-perspective episodes is played more than just a novelty.

If I was held at gunpoint and told to make a serious critique, it'd be that the plot and direction far outclass the animation quality. The scenes are well orchestrated, but the actual art lacks a bit of polish. That, and the minimal emphasis on worldbuilding (don't shoot me, I know that'll come later).

In short, if you feel a little blueballed by the "mecha" industry lately, here's your answer. Not much cool robot doe
