I don't know what I expected when i started this show. Quickly it turned into a gripping, visually stunning world with relate-able characters, and breathtaking art. If you expect it to be a bland, children's anime with no heart pounding moments, think again. Do not be fooled by the cutesy art styling, the story it tells is deep, dark, and depressing at times, but has shimmers of hope for the characters. A beautifully vast and expansive world with a sound track that draws you into it. Every moment of every episode has something that further drives the story. They revisit previous themes from other episodes, ... and maintain the continuity. What ever plot holes it may have are small and insignificant, and don't take anything away from the story as a whole. Highly recommend this anime to everyone!

Do you like crying?
This show pulls at your heart strings, and makes sure to pull to the point where tears roll down your face. I was not prepared for this show, I arrogantly thought that no anime would make me tear up. Let me tell you that finale still makes me cry, and I mean CRY. I watched this show years ago, and the amount of emotional distress this put me to cannot be put into words. The show has a familiar setting for most, childhood friends that no longer stay in contact, and that one friend that almost everyone segregates cause you can ... no longer put up with them. There is a character for each person to identify with, but the one thing that really drives home the realism is how they interact with each other after the death of one of their own. To avoid major spoilers let me just say, its an emotional thrill ride, with relate-able characters, a well written story, great animation, and an ending that will stay with you. A must watch!

Watching this anime for the first time you might not see it as a masterpiece, and definitely if you compare it to the manga source then you'll probably think its not as good. However, this is an anime that's easy to watch, has a great story, and doesn't take itself too seriously! I have probably re watched this anime roughly 15 times, and every time I watch it I gain new found appreciation for it. Its funny, adventurous, packed with action, and shows a lighter side to the whole "save the world" trope. The only fault I have with the anime, and I mean ... ONLY REAL fault I have is that stupid Excalibur. Every time it gets to his episodes I debate on skipping them, or suffering through his excessive talking. It is also refreshing to have the OP, loudmouth, hero-like character (Black Star) as support rather than the main.

This anime, my god.
Usually I would skip though scenes that bore me and that ends up ruining the experience. But this anime, there wasn't a moment that made want to stop watching. I actually teared up during the finale. The art is beautiful, and story really makes you want to travel to antartica. I was actually looking up how to get there, it re sparked my interest in science and the world. This is a must watch, and a gem among the thousands of crap slice of life's. A heart warming story, that really gets you invested in the characters.
