I ended up really enjoying the show. The whole concept of renting a girlfriend is for sure an interesting one and a big reason as to my liking of it.

On the one hand, the whole relationship is a false one, a simple exchange of money and service, an act. The MC understood that at the start of the show and was left feeling even worse off for himself.

On the other hand, it is quite a fun game to play with a girl that would otherwise be out of your league without having to go through the arduous process of building an actual relationship. If ... the girl is skilled enough, it is a taste of affection and company to people who haven't had any. Chizuru is that girl, the embodiment of professionalism for this type of work and a very well developed character.

The series addresses these points multiple times as well as giving some other reasons as to why girls even enter this type of work. And honestly, this is all I needed to make the show interesting.

Oreigaru is just a step ahead from all of the slice of life anime out there with it's amazing character development and emotional depth.

You truly feel the change of the personality of various people throughout the series and it feels like they truly have grown up and matured. The change is very gradual, which gives the whole story a feeling of longevity. It frankly feels like you've known and been with the group for years and developed yourself alongside them.

You sincerely feel the awkwardness of people not being able to verbalize themselves and the gaping pain and confusion that they feel after. It is ... without a doubt, an amazing attempt to understand the complexity of human emotions and self-expression.

I have watched a lot of slice of life anime series in the past, and, oreigaru, is undoubtedly, one of the best of it's genre.
