Gonna keep it nice & simple... (SPOILERS)
I dunno what other people think, but for me honestly this one was better than Kimi no na wa. Yes I know this is probably gonna be the least favourite review in the entire history of anime but let me explain.
Towards the end of Kimi no na wa, I couldn't help but be cringed out by the whole deal with the asteroid and saving a town. Like it was going so well up until that point, and I know it does work into the plot, but still...
I'm by no means saying Kimi no na wa was a bad
...
movie, it just cringed me out a bit... And Tenki no ko fixed that.
Since this story had a direction since the beginning and with each passing minute we could clearly understand the plot more and more. It didn't take a sharp turn for the worse like Kimi no na wa and kept it's plot under control and maintained its momentum. That's what makes it better than the former, It had a sense of direction right from the start, and since It stuck with its initial idea, it failed to cringe me out (am I saying 'cringe' too many times?).
Besides that, in terms of music, animation (arguably better solely because of the veggie cutting scene), and romance, both the movies were on par with each other. In short my ratings for this masterpiece
