This romance manga has a lot of character development with the use of romance and basketball. However, compared to Kono Oto Tomare!, I will say that it is a bit more mature since this manga takes place over a longer period of time. There are still scenes that are tooth-rottingly sweet!

Honey Lemon Soda
add

Both of these manga have a hint of romance within a school setting. Kono Oto Tomare! does not focus solely on romance, however. By using music as a medium, the reader can see the characters develop before their very eyes. In Honey Lemon Soda, the medium for character development is solely focused on school and interactions with classmates. Both of these mangas have an amazing art style and a plot that will make you feel the butterflies in your stomach!

Zankyou no Terror

If you like the recent episodes of Attack on Titan, then you will most likely adore Terror in Resonance. I can't describe how much I love Zankyou no Terror without mentioning important details in the plot (NO SPOILERS!). However, I can say that it has twists and turns, and the plot may fool you. If I haven't persuaded you yet, Terror in Resonance is animated by MAPPA. Therefore, the animation style and art are both wonderful.

Both of these use animal characters as a metaphor for social concepts. Unlike Beastars, Odd Taxi switches POV a lot.

Fumetsu no Anata e

This anime is about a genius duo that are terrorists. Through their experiences, we see different ideals and flaws of humanity. There are a bunch of metaphors as well.

86

The first few episodes are really confusing; however, it displays the faults of humanity through different lenses. Unlike with Fumetsu no Anata e, 86 is told through 2 POVs–the inside and the outside. On the other hand, Fumetsu no Anata e showcases human habits and goals through each character that Fushi meets.

This is a very good soccer manga. However, instead of focusing on teamwork and having a "special partner," this manga focuses on the talents of the individual and how one can improve individual skills.

Ballroom e Youkoso
add

This manga is similar to Haikyuu!! because the protagonist is very loveable. At first he had no hobbies and was bored of his life, until he came across ballroom dancing. The characters in this manga are all well developed, and the drama is well paced. Similar to how Haikyuu!! follows the improvement of Hinata's skills, this manga focuses on the protagonists improvement.

Act-age
add

This is not a sports manga, but it does follow the protagonist and her improvement of skills, similarly to that of Haikyuu!!. The protagonist looks toward acting as a coping mechanism to being abandoned with two very young siblings. The manga follows her journey through acting experiences. (If you are a Bungo Stray Dogs fan you will especially like the black box theater arc.) The art is amazing and the concept is very unique. They also go through explanations of theater and acting terms.

This manga is more intense than Haikyuu!!; however, it is very memorable. The drama is very well paced.

Hyakunichikan!!
add

This manga centers around a high schooler and a child; however it does not take place at a school. These two characters are not direct family, like the characters in Gakuen Babysitters, so the development of their familial relationship is very important to the story. There is character development as well. This is a nice "feel-good" manga.
