The sci-fi element from Flip Flappers comes from the characters going to the parallel dimension of Pure Illusion while in Star Twinkle, the characters are quite literally going to outer space. Both are solid series if you enjoy magical girls, imagination, and lots of colors.

Both feature the main lead going around solving cases involving supernatural beings which are divided into various arcs. There is a psychological aspect to both series as the mystery behind these entities and the characters involved with them unfold with a realization by the end. The presentation for each is different since Mononoke is more centered around horror and Monogatari is about becoming endeared to the characters but both offer something unique if you enjoy eccentric art and metaphorical storytelling.
