Despite what a lot of the negative nancies say here, I think Misfit at Demon King Academy is very fun anime.
Is it good? Hell no.
Is it enjoyable? Hell yes.
Don't try going into this anime expecting some masterpiece of storytelling, or some great characters, or anything like that.
Go into this anime to see some guy who I'd regard as the anime version of the renegade cop who doesn't play by the rules. A character who multiple times throughout the anime has said something like "You think I would die just because you killed me?".
Compared to other fantasy wish fulfillment stuff like smartphone isekai, I really don't
...
think this anime is playing itself too seriously. I certainly wouldn't call it satire, more like professional wrestling in that way. This anime does what so many of those other ones fail to do: be fun.
It might be worse watching one episode a week, but all at once, I had a hell of a time watching this dude flex on absolutely everyone.
Because that's what this anime is: some dude flexing on everyone for 12 episodes straight.
You want a fantasy with a good story? Watch Re:zero, or Fate or something.
You want to just turn the thinking parts of your brain off and watch the smuggest bastard to ever exist flex on everyone from the lowliest ant to gods governing the rules of the universe? Watch Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha. Just have fun.

Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa is roughly a harem monstergirl romcom, but none of those broad descriptors particularly do it justice. It's a fun, feel good manga with fun characters and a fun setting.
Story:7
The story is pretty average as far as high school ones go, there's a ton others with similar concepts: Our MC wanders into a classroom and finds some weird secret about a classmate and swears to keep it! But though the setting is generic, it feels good. It's a story about a cast of colorful kids trying their hardest to find love in a school, and keep secrets that may make them vilified
...
in society if discovered. The story itself isn't the draw of it, and there's some pitfalls that plague many anime and manga. There's a lot of cliffhangers at the end of chapters, it gets kinda harem-y, the mystery the author wants to show really isn't that difficult with the slightest bit of logical thinking, and there's only about 1 twist that actually matters. The story isn't the draw of this, it's a vehicle to get everything else in.
Art:7
Not great. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that really titillates the eyes. By far the best part of this though are sight gags. The author is great at drawing funny scenes, and great expressions when there's fun to be had. A favorite of mine is a repeating gag revolving around a character who can't seem to find a woman who will love him.
Character:8
The best part about this are the characters. They have varied personalities and interests that make them a delight to see what shenanigans the idiots will get up to. It's fun to see them interact and do things, and their lovable enough to get some feelings out of me. Downside is really everything getting just a bit too harem-y at some points. Like god damn get the mops these are some thirsty girls.
Enjoyment:9
It was fun, sometimes emotional. There were some points better than others but for the most part it was quite enjoyable, not much to say.
Overall:9
I really did enjoy this. Not the best i've read, but probably one of the better romance manga out there completed. Better than fuckin Nisekoi that's for damn sure. I'm rating this a nine in comparison to other's in the genre, not necessarily out of pure artistic merit of it, as there's others far better than this. Pure rating is near 8. But the reason why i give this a nine was it was truly enjoyable, and even made me tear up at a couple points. Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa stumbles sometimes and has some points I find kinda stupid, but I certainly don't regret it, and it ended strong, something so few manga really manage to do. It's fun, funny, and overall feel good. Really kinda makes you want a monstergirl waifu.

So Darling in the Franxx was almost one of the best anime I've ever watched. Week after week I was anxious and nervous wondering what will happen to these kids? How will they make it out? Will they be okay at the end or is this just all an unachievable dream? It toed a line between mech and character development that made it unique and interesting. But then it just fell off that line, down a hill and into some mud.
This anime is as if two different directors saw Gurren Lagann and Evangelion, and then had to make an anime, and they couldn't decide which
...
one they wanted to recreate, and in the end their inability to compromise on what they wanted just ruined the whole show.
Story: 2/10
For about the first 18 episode i would rank this higher. The story was grounded in some sort of reality, made sense for the characters and really felt like a struggle. Then after that it pulled out trite twists and story advancements reminiscent of every other show trigger has done. At first I couldn't wait to see what would happen next, then I couldn't wait to see it end.
Art: 8/10
Good enough art. Cute anime girls, cute anime mechs. Interesting aesthetic, good colors. Not groundbreaking but good enough
Sound: 9/10
Music is great, openings and otherwise. Probably the one part of this anime that stayed consistent.
Character: 8/10
The only reason this is so high is the beginning of this anime. Nearly every character at the beginning was interesting, full of life and conflict, and had interesting arcs and problems which made them feel so incredibly real, and then suddenly all of that just stops. After pretty much one singular episode, only two characters actually continue to develop, and even then it's much worse than it was before. I'd say the only reason why that development still continued is because it'd be something entire different to just abort character development that big. The characters that were once interesting are now flat, and what was once someone I cared about is just another tool to do the same old same old.
Enjoyment: 6/10
It was fun, then full of tension, then it just sucked.
Overall: 6/10
In the end, it's okay. This anime should have been a low octane character development, kids who just want to find a life to call their own in a world utterly unsympathetic to them and their causes. If the Darling in the Franxx wanted to be the crazy action romp it turned into, it should have done so from the beginning like Kill La Kill or Gurren Lagann were. It shouldn't have temped us with emotion and then just yanked it away. I'm furious that such potential was thrown out the window so easily. This show could have been one of the best, but now it's just another lost case. Perhaps more similar to Aldnoah then Evangelion or Gurren Lagann. Such potential lost in minutes. I don't regret watching this anime, and even enjoyed it, but it could have been so much more damnit.
