B: The Beginning
add

Both revolve around a law-abiding criminal investigation crew, with the different members having different personalities. One being a new girl on the team who is focused on pursuing justice, who is intrigued by an older, mysterious man on the team with spiky black hair and a relation to the main white-haired villain. The themes involved are: morality, philosophy, supernatural (more sci-fi in psycho-pass, more supernatural in B). Both have plenty of references to Latin, astrology, and the Bible. These are two very similar shows, but with central themes so different they are assuredly two separate good shows.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru
add

While Yagate Kimi ni Naru goes more in-depth, both involve the theme of using a mask socially to cover your inner insecurities. Same high-school setting, same "most popular star student" main girl, same theme of only revealing your true self to each other, and both shoujo-ai.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru
add

Both are initially one-sided shoujo-ai/yuri where each girl faces psychological problems of her own. Citrus is bit more sexual (nothing graphic), dramatic, and cliche than Yagate, but still similar. Both mention the secrecy of lesbian relationships and both have one girl trying to help the other through family problems. Almost identical settings as well, student council president and all.

Two stunning works of art based on the deepest secrets of the Old and New Testaments. Surely if you even like one you'll love the other or at least like it, but for sure you will love both. Truly two of the most impactful and inspirational shows out there. Dark side of humanity, inspiration, God- all of it

If you liked the humor and sexual content of DEVILMAN Crybaby, you might like this show. Deals with demons, angels, and sex, but this is a comedy show with a lighter-toned, less mature narrative.

Very similar show with themes of angels and the end of the world. One of the final scenes in DEVILMAN Crybaby might have even been a nod to this movie. Bloody monster fights and psychedelic, philosophical questioning of life and the self.

Gakkougurashi!
add

Gakkougurashi and Madoka Magica are heavily based off of this idea of cute girl deconstruction. Both feature a similar pink-haired lead who only wish the best for their friends. While Gakkougurashi and Madoka Magica appear happy at first, they are both rather dark and deal with depressing subjects. Both series value close friendship among a small group of girls.

Inugami
add

Both manga (I suggest watch Wolf's Rain anime instead of Wolf's Rain manga) center around wolf/canine religious beings who travel on the planet. Each have dark themes, violence, and multiple characters (however, Inugami is a bit more violent). In Inugami, the dogs are watching man but ultimately searching for something. In Wolf's Rain, the wolves join together to find Paradise, a place only wolves may go. Both manga have unique themes that delve into the lore of wolves. Inugami is more present-day while Wolf's Rain is set a bit in the future, but both are very similar while also being a bit different. However, if the idea of fantastical canines living among people searching for some purpose sounds interesting, then either work. Inugami is a bit more violent, scientific, and old-styled while Wolf's Rain has a bit more character development. But both go well together and seem to be based off of the same idea of Japanese folklore with wolves.

Baccano!
add

Both Black Lagoon and Baccano! revolve around mafias and gangs. While their forms of storytelling differ greatly, each divulge into the subject of gang-related violence and misunderstandings. Each have lots of similar action, mainly gun fights and some hand-to-hand. They each have a variety of unique and interesting characters within the multiple gangs and groups. Black Lagoon focuses more on the gangs' jobs themselves, rather than a story involving them, but for the action-loving viewer this will be just fine. Black Lagoon is a bit more realistic in terms of genre, but tends to be a bit over the top with some fight scenes. Over all, the two revolve around similar groups of people with similar mindsets. It may tell the story a bit differently and have a slightly darker and more mature atmosphere, but Black Lagoon is something to look into for fans of Baccano.

No.6
add

Both animes revolve around dark societies of secrets and lies to prevent a certain truth. The protagonists are on a quest for finding the truth behind what society and the world have hidden. Also to note, the settings are very much alike. A few episodes in, No. 6's future ghetto tends to match area's of Wolf's Rain. The time of each anime is set in the future where technology is highly advanced for those who can pay for it, yet not available in the slightest for those who cannot. While No.6 focuses more on a loss of innocence within a dystopian society, Wolf's Rain also includes this theme more subtly with a few of its characters. The moods of each anime are rather dark and serious with more washed out colors at times. They each have elements on character interaction and both include some well-written characters.

Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha
add

The storytelling and plot progression are very similar; However, Darker than Black is more episodic. Protagonist Hei is also much like Wolf's Rain's Kiba, in that they are more secluded and serious leaders trying to find their ways to something. Each have a supernatural aspect of themselves and are rather skilled at fighting. Both stories are more dark than happy and each involve the police and fantasy and sci-fi themes. The tone is both are kept more serious. As they are created by the same company, the art styles are comparable with similar colors and quality. While Wolf's Rain takes a more religious approach, Darker than Black is a bit more on the scientific explanation, yet both are set in an odd future of sorts. The stories may not be completely related, yet the mood of both are alike. Both include fighting and going against a strong group opponent.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
add

Both consist of the main protagonist is an intellectual battle of strategy and planning. They each contain highly intelligent characters and a few plot twists to keep the story moving. Both endings are incredible and help tie up the stories. Much like Light Yagami, main character Lelouch appears to be more of a self-centered wannabe-ruler who wishes to recreate peace within the world, like Death Note. Each main character has a fantastical power to alter the world around them and attempts, with their increased knowledge, to bend people to their will. Death Note centers around the police while Code Geass centers around the military, both being similar working bodies in tactics and action. While Code Geass is infact a mecha anime and Death Note is not, the themes and character relations are very similar. Romance is not of the utmost importance in either anime, but the main character does use the theme to his advantage is both. Overall, if you like the themes of questioning justice and fighting through mental tactics, then these animes will fit rather well.

Mirai Nikki (TV)
add

The main characters of Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland have much in common: The male protagonist, Ganta, begins as a bit of a wimp, no friends and forced into a crazy contest to the death with other users of a special power he and they wield. He also meets the female protagonist with a crazy knack for killing, who undoubtedly loves and trusts him. As for the story, both involve fighting elements of "only one winner who lives." Its themes of romance may be a bit less extreme, yet the personalities of the characters tend to be just as crazy. The power each character wields reflects their personality, much like that of the future diaries. The blood-bending powers are all used differently, however for the same effect, as with Mirai Nikki. Some characters appear to be allies while actually being enemies. Personalities range from pure terrorist to fighting for revenge. Ganta, similar to Yukiteru, fights to avenge the deaths of those close to him. Also to be noted, a large incident in which many students die in a school are important events in both animes.
