I would put this show into the shock value category. Shows like Euphoria or most ecchi animes depend on this tactic. Stories that are engaging are difficult to create which is why most of them would do something absurd like put the characters in an awkward situation. Other examples could be showing too much skin or surprising the viewers with something so erotic it catching everyone of guard. The sad this is this tactic actually works, its a coverup for bad storytelling and writing but it actually works.

After 4 years of watching anime I have finally found THE most boring show i have ever seen. This dood Gingko or whatever just walks arounf and goes to peoples houses and "helps" them with their mushi problem when most of the time he just tels them what to do or doesn't help them at all. This dood's whole career is this and he ain't even good at it. Story is atrocious, Mushishi is episodic which means like 90% of this is filler. What a disaster. I was not expecting much coming into this show due to the previous season being so bad but what i was not expecting was the 2nd season being worse than the first. There is a big difference from both seasons, while the first was more bright and upbeat and comedic the second is like its polar opposite. This season tries its best to have a more serious and sad tone by having constant times where nothing happens and no music or sounds are present, i can see why they tried this approach but it just fails horrendously. I can not understand how the frick this show is number 1 on mal and has a score of 9.22 of the time of writing this because it sure as frick does not deserve that rating. The story is typical, a protagonist has a goal that is bound to be fulfilled by the end.
