The mediocre ratings and mixed feelings given by most users is a good reflection of the state of most modern anime...trash. Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko is a breathe of fresh air to the stale romance genre. As someone who has read the manga, this anime is a very good adaptation with good standard artstyle and great voice acting. More than anything, it is hilarious and I find myself laughing out loud several times (not just blowing air through my nose).
I think anyone who dislikes the general and boring cliche of romance anime will enjoy this interesting spin. This show is for men of culture.
Note: I personally
...
have recently struggled watching anime due to slow and boring paces, and predictable and repetitive tropes. I usually drop trash anime quite easily. Even watching enjoyable shows can be difficult. This is not the case with this one - it's great.
edit1: also the op is great

In case you didn't get the point when skimming through the other reviews: THIS ANIME IS TRASH - STAY AWAY!
I am so furious, that instead of waiting to type this review up in the morning on my PC, im doing it asap on my phone. This anime left me physically cringing and squirming numerous time. I will break down why below, and trust me on this, I'm trying very hard to be lenient.
Story 3/10:
Poor
Very poor. The plot had potential to be quite honest. It did seem like i could ignore its faults, because i love good plot. But as the anime went on, it
...
spiraled into agony. Trying to hold 2 different stories at once is very difficult, and constant switching between the past and present left me very confused. The ending did surprise me, i give the anime that..it wasnt terrible, but the lead up to it was.
Art 2/10:
Very cliche, i dont like it
A lot of the animation was off time or just very very very awkward and cringey
But there werent many poorly drawn characters or items tbh, which is good
Sound 4/10 -
Awkward in many moments
VAs werent that bad.
The opening of the anime was really really good tho
Character 1/10 -
Pathetic
No likeable characters
Too many characters, all of them die all the time, no emotional attachment to anyone
Enjoyment 1/10 -
I was very bored
Simple
HOWEVER
I do recommend people to watch this anime if u have 4 hours to waste
I unironically started to enjoy the cringe
It made me appreciate good anime much much more
Cant wait for season 2 hahahahahahahahha (kms)

I will try to keep this review as brief and as spoiler-free as possible - I will probably go off tangent anyway
Story - 9/10
Art - 9/10
Character - 10/10
Enjoyment - 10/10
Overall - 10/10
Story - 9/10:
After watching the movie (and being deeply absorbed by it), I decided to read the manga and oh boy, was this a good decision. The movie left out many points from the manga in order to make it a suitable movie length (which was still too long for my taste xP), which I found great pleasure in seeing. Personally, I am not a big fan of the typical Slice of Life, Romance,
...
Drama, School setting, but this story was amazing to say the least. Chapters were full of very interesting plot content, and they were usually around only 20 pages long. I tend to have trouble reading manga in general but this series kept me up non stop - I was reading unimaginable amounts of chapters every day (well, for me, anyway). I was never as engaged in a manga series as this one.
Art - 9/10:
I really loved the art style. Usually when I read manga, I may get lost in between panels and have to re-read slowly to understand where I am now, from what view etc etc. But in this series, I was on the ball - the panels were very easy to understand and the flow of the art and consistency was remarkable. The background art was always prominent yet not distracting and the detail the author implemented was very fascinating
Character - 10/10:
Goodness, where do I begin. The character design in this manga, the MULTITUDE of personalities was phenomenal. All the characters made me feel a certain way - whether it was deep and extreme hatred, powerful connection and resemblance, absurd interest, cringe, love, pity... all characters made me feel numerous ways, and each exact emotion was different towards each character. The character development for characters, which was either very clear or hinted, made me very happy.
Enjoyment - 10/10:
As I said before, this manga was the first one to make me so engrossed with a series. Any time I got, I was reading it, and I never felt a chapter to be bland or insufficient.

This is my first review so please bear with me :P
I am also aiming at keeping this extremely spoiler-free, only explaining my viewpoint and impressions.
TL;DR:
The story was very very unpredictable and excruciatingly tense, well paced and v well plot centered. I personally enjoyed the art style which kept its strong consistency throughout. The voice acting was superb, as well as the restless soundtracks. Each character - no matter the role - felt real and distinctive. Very addicting.
Story- 10/10:
Cutting straight down to the chase - I loved the story. The story started off with a very amusing and somewhat relatable mc. The story dived straight
...
into the plot which was a great plus. The theme of gambling and risk was very prominent throughout the whole anime which is exactly what I came for. I gave this anime a 10/10 because of how unpredicatable and amazing the plot twists are - honestly, the tables can turn in a matter of split seconds, and I was left in awe and excitment every time. The story arcs were a suitable length and I never felt that an episode was too long. It is true that at some point, one 20 minute episode only captured 10 minutes of real time. However, time felt completely unrelevant due to the extreme tension the episode created and I did not feel any loss of time.
Art - 8/10:
The art is very different to say the least, it somewhat reminds me of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu with the black inking/bordering around characters. Needless to say, I am a fan of unique art styles in anime and do place art as the least significant factor in rating anime. In my opinion, the art was pleasing to see yet it was nothing spectacular. The art style was very consistent with barely any mistakes (I only noticed 1). At the beginning, it felt like characters were designed by literally mixing and matching premade facial strucures and shapes, which didn't really affect my liking for the art - it made it seem that everyone is similar in a way. However, the art always kept a high standard and I didn't feel any awkward animations - every seemed to flow very smoothly.
Sound - 8/10:
The soundtracks in the anime were very good - they created a tense and engulfing atmosphere at very crucial times. I absolutely loved the ZAWA ZAWA~ throughout the entire anime. Voice acting was great - the casting, the emotions, everything. It really felt like the character voice's matched them. I really enjoyed the opening and ending songs, doesn't get stuck to mind that much but nevertheless, very fun xD
Character - 9/10:
The massive variety of personalities was awesome. Kaiji (the main mc) was so loveable although all his bad qualities. You pity him at so many points of the anime, feeling his pain and anguish. However, he has such amazing moments of inspiration and motivation, that you sit in bewilderment. He is a great guy, with very terrible luck and fate. His enemies differ a lot - most characters differ quite a bit. Some are extremely hateable yet others are to be feared or avoided, which I think is a great mix. Even the sideline characters have very clear personalities, which are portrayed and developed very well.
Enjoyment - 9/10:
Not much to say about this - its very subjective.
Each episode hooked me onto the next, I was flying through them more than ever. I loved the tension, the uncertainty, the risks.
